Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

A Surprise I loved
Revisado: 10-22-24
I came here as a fan of The Martian - and I may love Project Hail Mary even more. The world and its people feel real. I don’t have the background to know how realistic most of the science is, but the logic certainly checks out. I really enjoy plots that focus on solving a problem rather than relying on melodrama. And the way the story unfolds as you get to know the main character was so satisfying. Ray Porter was an excellent narrator, as always.

Historia
There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The first item on his to-do list: Spending his newfound windfall. On an urge to splurge, he signs up to have his head cryogenically preserved in case of death. Then he gets himself killed crossing the street. Waking up 117 years later, Bob discovers his mind has been uploaded into a sentient space probe with the ability to replicate itself.

Fun Listen
Revisado: 04-24-24
This is very much like Star Trek in that you can dive into the science or just enjoy the plot. I love the premise, the humor, and the commentary on humans being human. I’ve listened to 3 books narrated by Ray Porter and I like him more with each listen. If you liked Bob I’d recommend the Quarter Share series; to hear Porter get even more snarky check out the Reaper series (it’s darker, fair warning).

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Light, Fun Sci-fi!
Revisado: 02-13-24
John Scalzi and Wil Wheaton continue to be a winning combo! The story is wonderful, fun, and a perfect break from the darker subjects the genre usually addresses. The world building is immersive and the characters real. The author’s note is the unexpected cherry on top. Heartily recommend! No trigger warnings

Historia
Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic. The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet. Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders....

Good performance
Revisado: 09-30-23
I love the Discworld books and Indira Varma was a good pick for the witches story arc. I liked Stephen Briggs’s voice better for the NacMacFeegle; it was easier to understand and better delivery.
Overall I would happily recommend it to fans of the series.

Historia
The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier. But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing.

Love this series
Revisado: 03-03-23
Each book in this series has been a good read. They are the right length for the plot, pacing is good, the characters have depth, and the dry, dark wit hits just the right note for the world. As ever, I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Quinto’s voice. Highly recommend for a quick shot of excellent world building!

Revisado: 01-27-23
Some of the Discworld books are being re-recorded. But not this one. And now you can’t even buy the original recording in the US.
I love these books and wish publishers would stop jerking us around with the audio versions.

Historia
Yakoub was once the legendary king of the Rom, the Gypsy race that has evolved from the days of caravans into lords of the spaceways - the only pilots capable of steering ships safely between the many worlds of the galaxy. Weary and proud, Yakoub has relinquished his power and lives in exile on a distant, icy world. In his absence, chaos fills the vacuum of power. The fate of the entire galactic empire hangs in the balance.

An old favorite on audiobook
Revisado: 11-30-22
Star of Gypsies is one of the top 10 books in my life. While Rudnicki is not the voice I gave Yakoub in my head all those years ago, he does the story justice and then some. Very happy to have an old favorite now on audiobook as I rarely have time to sit down and just read.

Well done, could do without the chiming
Revisado: 10-20-22
Serkis gives a performance on par with previous Discworld narrators, Nigel Planer and Stephen Briggs. I love the old recordings and regret not buying more of them while still available. However, I’m very happy with the narration and sound quality of this updated recording. My only critique is the musical theme indicating the footnotes - a single chime would have sufficed, imo, but I’m sure I’ll adjust as I listen to more of the anniversary recordings.
Thank you to everyone who is part of the Discworld anniversary recording project. Pratchett’s work deserves all the love you’ve put into it.

Historia
Adam Binder has the Sight. It’s a power that runs in his bloodline: the ability to see beyond this world and into another, a realm of magic populated by elves, gnomes, and spirits of every kind. Years after his brother Bobby had him committed to a psych ward, Adam is ready to come to grips with who he is, to live his life on his terms, to find love, and maybe even use his magic to do some good. Hoping to track down his missing father, Adam follows a trail of cursed artifacts to Denver, only to discover that an ancient and horrifying spirit has taken possession of Bobby’s wife.

Revisado: 08-07-22
Solid world building and fully-fleshed, dynamic characters plus a queer MC who doesn’t fall into all the worst stereotypes. I’ll be buying the next book immediately! And well done to Michael David Axtell for beautiful narration. The accents, to the best of my knowledge, are spot on, and I could always tell which character was speaking. Thank you, David R. Slayton, for a wonderful read.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

TW: toxic family dynamic
Revisado: 06-14-22
This book wasn’t for me but it’s written and performed well. The characters are well developed, the comedic sass is on point. My only qualms are the main character’s unwillingness to set boundaries with her family, and her family’s willingness to manipulate and steal from her. However, if you’ve no personal history like that it will probably come off as funny.
