Hard to figure out what was going on
Revisado: 06-02-24
Lots of good sound effects but it was difficult to tell what was going on and to whom it applied. I finally got involved in the story toward the end of the book, then it just ended with no real closure. Not a fan.

In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Definitely kept you wondering
Revisado: 05-08-24
Touched on emotional topics that run the gamut from abortion, rape, grooming, child predators, murder, revenge, perfectionism, controlling behavior, mental illness, etc., yet not making it clear what is real and what is fictional until various story lines are revealed throughout the book. Unique and well executed plot. Tried to use this book as background noise to go to sleep - now I’m exhausted from staying up all night listening!

Great story but annoying narration
Revisado: 01-22-24
I read all the reviews and was surprised that nobody mentioned the odd pronunciation of the reverend as the “reverent”. It threw me every time. The oft mentioned whistles and swallows were slightly annoying, but tolerable. Still, great story, especially as a free Audible Plus download.

Relationship and review issues (spoilers)
Revisado: 11-24-23
Before my book review, I want to make a comment on some of the other reviewers. I personally don’t select a book unless it has at least a four star review rating, but I don’t actually read the reviews until I finish the book because I am afraid of spoilers. In this case, I am surprised at the number of reviewers who don’t even have the basic facts correct. One reviewer mentioned it being a “Nora Roberts” book, and another mentioned that the main character was an RN. Please be careful to be accurate when leaving a review, because your words are intended to impact the actions of other readers and can hurt an author or narrator unintentionally. Ok, I’m off my soapbox now!
As far as this book is concerned, I felt a real disconnect with the love story between the main characters. Sara genuinely cared about her rock star but she didn’t respect him and admitted that she felt he was slow. He, on the other hand, respected Sara but also did not feel they were equals, and there did not seem to be any passionate feelings between them. The fact that she kissed his brother right after his “death” further proves this. I think the personal growth period they both went through was supposed to equalize this disparity in their feelings for each other, but it just felt too contrived to me. She didn’t seem to decide she truly loved him until he became a clone of his brother.
All that said, it was a lighthearted, “clean the house” type of book with no deep moments, no tearful sections, etc. Just a pleasant love story, no matter how improbable.

Terrible narration
Revisado: 08-29-23
I am not one who usually complains about the narrator of an audiobook, but this is the first one (out of 573) that was so bad I almost couldn’t make it through the book. The reading was extremely stilted - it was painful to listen to at regular speed.
The story itself was predictable, but still kept my attention until the end. Nothing was left to the listener’s imagination since all thoughts and conclusions were spelled out and repeated numerous times.
I might listen to another book by this author if it was free and read by a different narrator.

Warning …. Spoilers!
Revisado: 07-05-23
I really enjoyed the twists in the story, but found Clemmie’s life almost unbearably heartbreaking. To have never known a man’s love, to have lived in fear, hidden under an alias and remained a peripheral player in everyone else’s lives makes it seem like the coach won, even after death.
I would have enjoyed an epilogue where Clemmie ended up getting married, and where her son’s DNA test led his way to her and they were able to build a relationship.
Still, the story was entertaining and kept me engaged the whole time, so it was definitely worth my “two for one” credit special.

Come on Audible readers, use your brains!
Revisado: 05-24-23
I really didn’t care much for this story but felt I had to at least give it an overall 4 star review to make up for so many reviewers slamming this title due to the “interactive choices” being “broken”. It is an audio book! It is not interactive! It is a story about an interactive adventure and the choices the narrator makes. You are the listener! The choices you yell at your phone or iPad do not matter! Nothing is broken!!!!
