Historia
The liberation of occupied France is long overdue, but the operation requires the combined efforts of the resistance groups across Europe. Jeremy returns to France to prepare for the Allied invasion. An occupied country is a dangerous terrain to navigate, and as Jeremy works to set the plan in motion, even the smallest mistake can come at a fatal price. Author was rushing to make a press deadline.
Revisado: 03-21-24
I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed all of the preceding books in this series. With the sixth installment, author Lee Jackson has lost the excitement of the earlier books. This story feels formulaic with little of the character insights or historic details found throughout much of the earlier novels. The narration is still excellent and I’m hoping Mr. Miller get back in the saddle for the final book(s) in the series.

Historia
Even through the roar and effervescence of the 1920s, everyone in New York has heard of Benjamin and Helen Rask. He is a legendary Wall Street tycoon; she is the daughter of eccentric aristocrats. Together, they have risen to the very top of a world of seemingly endless wealth—all as a decade of excess and speculation draws to an end. But at what cost have they acquired their immense fortune? This is the mystery at the center of Bonds, a successful 1937 novel that all of New York seems to have read. Yet there are other versions of this tale of privilege and deceit.

Dull & choppy- quit before half done
Revisado: 07-08-23
I listen to a lot of books from across many genres. This is only the 2nd one in over ten years as an Audible subscriber that I’ve given up on. Perhaps my brain is too addled for Pulitzer-level content, or perhaps the Pulitzer judges are too ethereal & erudite for the vast majority of readers. Either way- I understood but was unable to connect with these stories.

Continued drama, action and romance as the Allies push through Italy.
Revisado: 06-08-23
Lee Jackson continues to draw us in using a powerful mix of dramatizations surrounding actual battles and verified individual heroic actions in both the Pacific and European theaters following a slight run through N. Africa. The Littlefield family continues to near-single-handedly win the war, but the reader can excuse this dramatic license in the name of a great read. Can’t wait for the next installment!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Unique and creative story with great narration
Revisado: 05-06-23
Not my normal fare, but I listened based on other reviews. Ms. Van Pelt tells a wonderful, touching and relatable story unlike anything else I’ve read. Approached with just the right amount of suspension of disbelief the reader is pulled into an intriguing story that’s part mystery, part human interest and part fantasy. Looking forward to her next story.

April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Stupidly improbable
Revisado: 09-19-22
OK- I understand the literary concept of “suspension of disbelief”, but this author abuses the reader to the point of taking it personally. In an attempt to lure the reader to the final plot twist, we are led from one “how could anyone be so stupid” to the next. Each time with the ramped up emotion of YGBSM. What starts out as a sympathetic protagonist, by the end, leaves the reader believing that (she) deserves whatever she gets- having lost all sympathy. No character is left innocent- all of them are tainted and go down in self-abused flames. In addition, a story which might have been a compelling 8-9 hour listen, was instead a tortured 17 hour dredge with multiple iterations of the same hand-wringing verbose piffle. Her editor should share blame for this gross literate negligence. Ms. Church, however, did a very good job with the narration and her performance is the bright spot in this production.

Historia
The White House is the home of the president of the United States, the most guarded, monitored, closely watched person in the world. So how could a US president vanish without a trace? And why would he choose to do so? An unprecedented collaboration between President Bill Clinton and the world's best-selling novelist, James Patterson, The President Is Missing is a breathtaking story from the pinnacle of power.

Very good story- painful narration
Revisado: 10-02-21
Very good who-done-it and action adventure story. The author occasionally gave in to preaching about how hard it is to be president but not so much that it took away from the gripping plot line. The same cannot be said about Mr. Quaid’s voice acting. As the primary character, his “regular” voice was broken and halting with brakes that distracted. His foreign accents and female impersonations were much worse- forced and so poorly done that it was all I could do to finish this otherwise good audiobook. I love Dennis Quaid as a screen actor but this book wasn’t a good fit for his talents.

Historia
Gifted storyteller Winston Groom, the best-selling author of Forrest Gump, has written the fascinating story of three extraordinary heroes who defined aviation during the great age of flight: Charles Lindbergh, Eddie Rickenbacker, and Jimmy Doolittle. These cleverly interwoven tales of their heart-stopping adventures take us from the feats of World War I through the heroism of World War II and beyond, including daring military raids and survival at sea, and will appeal to fans of Unbroken, The Greatest Generation, and Flyboys.

Great history with confusing story jumping
Revisado: 09-05-20
Mr. Groom’s history takes the reader well beyond the headlines we all know. He shares the stories behind the stories and then goes on to tell the history most of us have never heard. The only negative is the frequent decade-hopping back and forth between the three protagonists, almost as if the author was trying to tie the three aviators together where there is absolutely no commonality (other than that they all were pilots).

Fast paced action with authentic military aspects!
Revisado: 08-23-19
I’d forgotten how great a truly well written military thriller can be! It’s been years since anyone wrote a story with this much well-researched military background- from hardware to tactics and strategy, this was one of those “can’t put it down” books that only comes along every few years. Note to the authors: the A-10 Warthog does not have an afterburner: )

Historia
Terrorism in Europe has spun out of control. The United States has decided on a dramatic response. Now, the CIA needs a very special kind of operative. Scot Harvath has exactly the skills the CIA is looking for. He's a former U.S. Navy SEAL with extensive experience in espionage. Working for a private intelligence company, he will provide the CIA, and more important, the President, with absolute deniability.

Good, but Harvath is getting predictable
Revisado: 07-09-16
Brad Thor's protagonist continues to kick butt and take names, but his plots are getting a bit formulaic with the self-righteous politicians and a couple of "stumbles" thrown in to try and keep the reader's pulse rate up. Still an entertaining story- I'd just like a more differentiated plot line. Unrelated: The whole build up of vengeance toward Russia was then dealt with much too quickly/simply at the end- like a steam over-pressure relief valve- it just went "pop-hiss" and the entire confrontation with Russia went away in two paragraphs- neither entertaining nor realistic.
