General Alex Dumas is a man almost unknown today, yet his story is strikingly familiar—because his son, the novelist Alexandre Dumas, used his larger-than-life feats as inspiration for such classics as The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers.

Historia
The King and I tells the story of Harry Mount's fixation with Elvis over 35 years; how it changed from mild interest as a child, via self-mocking adolescent fandom to full-blown obsession at university, before settling into relatively sane reverence today. What happens to our teenage obsessions when we grow up? How do they help - or harm - us? In this moving, funny memoir, Harry Mount reveals how Elvis released him from the bookish shyness of his sheltered childhood, and provided a magical escape route from his conventional, cloistered public school background.

Very Well Written and Interesting
Revisado: 07-06-23
I really enjoyed listening to The King and I. I loved the British accent of the narrator and the outlook of a fan from England. I guess I was a little disappointed
when it ended because I was waiting for something else to happen. I don’t know what I was waiting for, maybe something “bigger”? Like maybe Mount meeting his wife during a tour of Graceland?? But overall, the book did live up to its title and told readers how Elvis had shaped Harry Mount’s life. Well done, Mr. Mount. Thank you for writing The King and I.

It’s wonderful to hear about the early years of Elvis’ fame from an earlier love like June Juanito. Her memories were touching, funny and sad, but all interesting I very much enjoyed her wit and humor and great writing style! Thank you, June!

Historia
George Eliot's most ambitious novel is a masterly evocation of diverse lives and changing fortunes in a provincial community. Peopling its landscape are Dorothea Brooke, a young idealist whose search for intellectual fulfillment leads her into a disastrous marriage to the pedantic scholar Casaubon; and the charming but tactless Dr Lydgate, whose marriage to the spendthrift beauty Rosamund and pioneering medical methods threaten to undermine his career.

Very Well Written
Revisado: 02-17-23
I think Ginger did an excellent job of writing and reading her story. At the beginning, I was surprised at how quickly she read the story. But I soon got used to it and did not have a problem keeping up. If I wanted to hear something again, I could always stop the book and replay a small part. I didn’t know of Ginger or anything about her before reading her book. She was candid but respectful in sharing her relationship with Elvis, his family and his friends.

So Touching
Revisado: 02-02-23
Priscilla Presley did an excellent job of sharing her experience as the love of Elvis’s life, his only wife and the mother of his only child. She gave great insight into the sensitive and vulnerable side of Elvis, as well as his playful, fun side and his generous and loving nature toward those he knew and loved and total strangers, as well. She helped to shed light on the complex life of the world’s greatest entertainer, including his perfectionism of craft, his creativity and his forced isolation from being mobbed by fans should he go out in public. Priscilla shared weaknesses and failings of Elvis which demonstrated that the superstar was a mere mortal like any of us — a man. She shared his disappointments, such as their divorce and never getting the serious acting roles he longed for. She shared his love of gospel music and how important it was in his life. Her book made me appreciate the music of Elvis more, as well as his contributions to culture and to the world. Her book made me wish I could have seen Elvis perform, especially in his prime, and that I could have met him. Priscilla’s story was honest and touching, sad, but also inspiring.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-25-22
Very wordy and hard to follow. Some parts are extremely boring causing inattention and confusion later. A few parts are funny but fall short of the promise of comedy in the introduction. Very disappointing compared to most of Dicken’s work.
