His best friend is his low-energy Basset hound Jake, with whom he shares a simple life of stealing cars. Simple, that is, until Ruddy starts hearing a voice in his head. A charming tale you wont regret listening to
Revisado: 10-04-22
Will this story change your life? No. Will this story be unique and entertaining? Yes A who-dunit /cottage mystery with a very clever twist. Delightful characters that I had no problem envisioning due to their personalities and the reader’s voice.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend. One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Another “can’t stop listening” tale from Jewell
Revisado: 01-05-22
The only problem with Lisa Jewell’s books are they are so good I listen to them start to finish within a day and then I’m left having to wait for her to write another one. Found myself rooting for Kim, Sophie and Tallulah so much that I had to remind myself that they’re fictional characters- which for me is a great sign that author developed/presented them right.

Historia
The sisters of Gwenafwy Abbey have cherished their contemplative life - days spent in prayer, reflection, tending the convent's vegetable gardens and making their award-winning organic cheese, Heavenly Gouda. Life seems perfect, except for Sister Agatha, a die-hard mystery fan who despairs of ever finding any real life inspiration for her own novel. That is, until the abbey's sexton is found dead under an avalanche of gouda. Despite the reservations of the local constable, Sister Agatha is convinced it's murder and the game is afoot.

Fun, well written murder mystery
Revisado: 02-11-21
Will this story blow you mind? No.
Will it entertain you? Yes
Will you begin pronouncing Gouda as gow-duh vs goo-da? Probably.
Will you look up recipes for clotted cream, scones, and Welsh cake? Most definitely.
The characters are charming- thanks to their descriptions coupled with the reader’s voice, I was easily able to envision them all.

Blanche is Charming & I’m hooked
Revisado: 11-19-20
Beaton and Christie fans will not be disappointed. I’m a huge mystery fan, preferring this softer sub-genre to the more intense versions. This book does a great job introducing us to Blanche: her story and her skills- I can’t wait to discover more about her! The narrator is fabulous and quite talented, mastering so many voices. Not only was I able to easily distinguish the characters from one another, her voice helped composed their image in my mind. I’ve lived in the South for over 35 years- she captured the accents beautifully.

Story is fine, reading is too fast.
Revisado: 10-10-19
The story is predictable, which for this genre I’m fine with, but the reading of the tale is too fast. Reduced the speed to .75 which made it a bit more tolerable to listen to, but then a bit slow in pace. Not sure if the reader is too fast, the audio file is playing funky, or the recording was bad, regardless listening to it has become too challenging so I’ve had to stop.

Meh- maybe the book is better?
Revisado: 12-26-17
I found the story to be a mix of Jane Austin and Charles Dickens, borrowing the forlorn and dread from Dickens and the sassy romantic protagonist from Austin. The two styles mashed together didn’t work for me, as I found storyline unbelievable and everything too predictable. To me, one moment Amy comes off as a wishy-washy woman held back by 19th century standards, then in the next scene she’s suddenly a 21st century scholar with the wisdom of a 50 year old woman. The premise of the novel is good, but due to inconsistent character behavior, I caught myself several times rolling my eyes and thinking, “really? he/she would say/do that?” After one such time, I began to think if maybe it was how the line was delivered by the narrator and not the line itself, thus making me wonder maybe if I had actually read this novel I’d like it much better.

Good but Predictable thus the 3 stars
Revisado: 05-11-16
Where does The Lake House rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Somewhere in the middle, interesting tale but not a "you HAVE to listen/read this book"
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
just as I thought it would
Which scene was your favorite?
Main character walking through the woods and discovering the house.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, which is fine when needing something to kill time during a long commute.
Any additional comments?
The writing is fine, author is able to describe scenes so that you can envision them yourself without falling asleep because they are too descriptive (yes, there is a fine line). The story line though I feel was stretched too far and went in too many directions. Felt like is was two types/styles of books being forced into one: serial mystery with a quirky female detective (which I loved) and a serious novel. Loved the main character, would have like the book to been more about her immediate story than all the flashbacks/serious novel bits. Caroline Lee does a fabulous job reading.

Lovely Tale That Makes You Think
Revisado: 11-19-15
If you could sum up Me Before You in three words, what would they be?
Non-traditional Love Story
What did you like best about this story?
It was very thought provoking romance, I kept asking myself, "what would I do?" "how would I feel" ... it isn't a "heavy" book in that way, in fact it is very approachable, but I was hooked by the story and was crying for all the right reasons at the end.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
besides the ending, I would have to say the maze
Any additional comments?
If you are a romantic, I highly recommend it, feel like Jojo Moyes perfectly captured and described some of love's purest/truest moments. I wouldn't call this a traditional love story, but I would call it a true love story...love for someone, love for friends, love for family...this has definitely been a story that has lingered in my mind after reading it. Very touching.
