Food. There's plenty of it around, and we all love to eat it. So why should anyone need to defend it? Because in the so-called Western diet, food has been replaced by nutrients, and common sense by confusion—most of what we’re consuming today is longer the product of nature but of food science. The result is what Michael Pollan calls the American Paradox: The more we worry about nutrition, the less healthy we see to become.

Kind of preachy and repetitive
Revisado: 04-08-21
I had to check my progress a few times while reading this book because I kept hearing the same thing over and over. It’s good information to know and consider but the additional smugness of the narrator made this book a slog.

The Narrator is AWFUL
Revisado: 02-02-19
I’ve listened to and enjoyed the two other books in this series but this is by far one of the worst narration jobs I’ve ever heard. It’s waaaay overdone and annoying to listen to for an extended period of time; he’s so dramatic with every single word that I can’t take it seriously. Like, is the dude constipated and trying to make a movement? Try listening to a sample; you’ll see. It’s. Every. Word.
This also seems to be a hack job with the editing as there are multiple glitches and repeats of the same line throughout the first half. It feels like this product was rushed to market without proper refinement.
I appreciate the author’s intent here but this product is the red headed stepchild of the Rational Male series.

Buildings have memories. Places bear scars. We've all had those moments - a chill in the air, a sense that something terrible once happened where we stand. But some houses are more than scary. They're hungry. Larkspur House has lured five kids inside, and they're trapped. The five will have to look carefully - there are clues to the house's secrets scattered all over the grounds, and if they can figure out the past, it might show them a way out of their terrifying present.

I’m a big Halloween fan, but am not crazy about super gory stuff. I was looking for a fun, easy to listen to story that I could listen to on my morning commute. I like the writing, performance, and twists through out the story. I definitely enjoyed this.

Have you ever wondered what separates people who think bigger from people who set their bars low? What makes one person accept low standards and another person constantly raise them? What drives a person who's optimizing every single aspect of her life, and what causes another person to maintain the status quo? I found this topic so fascinating, I decided to find out the answer for myself and write a book about it.

What a great book for the commuter. I go through a number of audiobooks per month on my drive, and I find that longer books tend to be wasteful of time and attention. This book is the perfect length. Also, I very much appreciate the appendix at the end because when an author includes this, I am able to see and find new authors to spur my growth.

Great reading and story
Revisado: 11-24-15
Of course Stephen King is a master storyteller. His ability to weave characters and reality to create a tapestry of belief is truly great.
But what stands out here is the performance. Ron McLarty does a phenomenal job bringing the story to life.
A must read.

Historia
What does it mean when a fictional hero takes a journey? Shares a meal? Gets drenched in a sudden rain shower? Often, there is much more going on in a novel or poem than is readily visible on the surface - a symbol, maybe, that remains elusive, or an unexpected twist on a character - and there's that sneaking suspicion that the deeper meaning of a literary text keeps escaping you. In this practical and amusing guide to literature, Thomas C. Foster shows how easy and gratifying it is to unlock those hidden truths.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Kate Mulgrew nails it
Revisado: 10-12-15
Wow! First, Joe Hill is a masterful story teller. I first read NOS4A2 when it came out, really enjoyed it and have enjoyed his other works such as Heart-shaped Box and 20th Century Ghosts.
Now because it is the month of Halloween I've wanted to thematically binge out on vampire related audio thrillers on my morning commute, so I bought this and several others.
Let me just say that few performances like Mulgrew's exist. Her wide array of delivery paired with her constance of character made this a most enjoyable experience. She is both a delight and a total spine-tingling maniac when behind the mind of Mr Manx. And her depth and intimate understanding of each character is luscious and satisfying; no character's portrayal is contrite or wanting. She is spot on.

Invigorating
Revisado: 07-14-15
In what has been said to be the summation of 20th-century philosophy, Zen and the Art of motorcycle maintenance has been one of my most favorite audible purchases in a long time. What starts off as a cross country trip becomes an exploration of the subject of quality, and perhaps men's duality with his past self and his present self.
My only complaint about this recording is the narration change that happens around three quarters of the book's length. Although it is the same voice the depth and speed of the narration changes which gave me the feeling of weight and sleepiness. Perhaps the reason is stylistic, or artistic, but there's a section within the book that dismisses style in lieu of quality. I've gone back and forth on whether I appreciate this or not.
None the less, this book has reinvigorated me to explore again the foundations of western thought and philosophy.
I will definitely recommend this book and intend to enjoy the recording many times again.

Because of this, our brain uses its spare time to learn about the social world-other people and our relation to them.

Pretty good read
Revisado: 02-02-15
I enjoyed this read very much. There were many different sections of this book that help illuminate the way the human mind works.
Don't expect to finish this book and have a deep understanding of the topic. Instead appreciate how Liebermann sums up the material in a broad, easy to understand manner.
I particularly enjoyed the discussions about autistic children and their challenges, as well as his proposal to implement social skills-based learning at the junior high school level. Great thought-provoking and conversational material.

A great title
Revisado: 02-18-12
The Real Book of Real Estate is not a fluff book; it's not one of those "Hey-I-got-rich-at-the-right-time-through-dumb-luck-and-this-one-opportunity-that's-now-illegal-but-hey-I-think-you-can-get-rich-somehow-too!" books.
No; this book is for real. I've been in real estate investing for some time now and, unlike the gurus, this book provides a solid 18 hours of thought provoking, business savvy sense by some incredibly gifted, hard working and diligent men and women.
If you are in any way shape or form interested in real estate, and have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad or some of the other RDPD books, then this book is the natural progression if you're serious about being successful in real estate.
Also handy: some of the contributors in this book have their own specialties and have books as well (like Ken McElroy's ABCs of Real Estate).
Read it. Read it again. Then go buy your first property.
