A long, tedious "Woke" lecture

Rod Sterling created such a clever sci-fi series, with subtle and poignant social commentary. So it's a pleasure to listen to this recap of every episode.

Unfortunately, the author is neither subtle nor poignant. Instead he has turned this production into a long and painfully tedious "Woke" lecture. He pontificates on issues such as racism, misogyny, toxic masculinity and cultural appreciation ad nauseum. And he needlessly - any annoyingly - repeats the same "Woke" points over and over again.

The "Twilight Zone" was terrific. But this author's take on the series?? Not so much...

The history covered by this book is fascinating. But it's VERY difficult to follow as an audio book. The continuous references to so many different people, places and military units makes it almost impossible to follow. The written version is probably much better with access to maps and indexes of people and units.

This book starts out with a fascinating premise - How did their experience on this integrated team impact the lives of these young man, and what is their perspective on it so many years later?

Instead, the book becomes a seemingly endless lecture on the racial inequities in our society - in our legal, economic and educational systems.

Certainly these are important issues that must be addressed. But that wasn't what this book was advertised to be.

Very disappointed. Couldn't finish it. And ended up returning it.

I did a search on "basketball" and saw this book. The story looked intriguing. Only after I started listening to it, I realized that it was fiction.

I was hoping for a interesting, insider's look at the rise of Bernie Ecclestone and Formula 1. Instead this book drones on and on with every trivial detail of seemingly each business negotiation of Bernie's career.

As we are currently in the midst of a real pandemic, I was interested in this novel. Unfortunately I had to give it up half way through.

The main characters are so one-dimensional. The "good guys" are so strong, noble, wise and compassionate.

Can't anyone write fiction with realistic portrayals of people with all of their good qualities as well as their shortcomings and failings??

I am requesting a refund.

After enduring my second ridiculous and totally unrealistic escape scene, I had to stop listening. I was a HUGE Nelson DeMille fan back in the early days. Books like Cathedral and By The Rivers Of Babylon had realistic plots and tragically flawed heroes. Now his books have amusing, but simplistic, super-heroes. I want a refund. And I'll never buy another DeMille book. Although, as always, Scott Brick does a great job narrating.

Any additional comments?

I rarely, if ever, write book reviews. But this book was so awful, I have to vent. It starts with an interesting premise that caught my attention. But it soon drifts into a story line so predictable and redundant, I easily followed along by listening to approximately the first minute of each chapter. The ending was just ridiculous. It could've been written by a junior high school kid. Perhaps the author intended to write a satire, but this book is so bad I have to wonder if the entire book was really just a twisted joke. I'd never heard of Bentley Little before and now wouldn't touch anything he's written with a ten foot pole. I will be contacting Audible and demanding a full refund. I've been a loyal listener for many years. I always have an Audible book going. This book was an assault on my intelligence and a complete waste of time and money.
