Historia
While Lady Violet Belmaine is busy sorting out the odd turns her life has recently taken, Hugh St. Sevier repairs to his Kent estate in hopes of embarking on the placid life of a rural physician. Alas, for St. Sevier, the village of St. Ivo has more secrets than it has pots of heartease, and the good doctor will once again find himself the target of rumors and threats. Somebody is rigging St. Ivo’s hound races, setting neighbor against neighbor, and turning what should be a friendly entertainment into an occasion for brawling.

Love for him
Revisado: 11-21-23
Rose Gordon is a skilled wordsmith and character crafter. This book is another example of that. However I have one longing. I wish she would adjust her plots to include less torture of her hero and heroine and give them and the reader a bit more time to enjoy their harmony. This book in particular was much looked forward too by me. Having met the hero in other books I longed for him to finally get his happily ever after. Yet I have only been disappointed by a plot as much in one other book (by a different author) in my entire reading experience. Perhaps the acuteness of my disappointment came from the fact that I listened to this entire series back to back. Because of this and the fact that the hero from this book gets poorly treated in love in the plots of other books in the series, and because he is a handicapped in ways that make forming relationships challenging in the first place, I was longing for him to finally get a break and get his own happily ever after and not the hard way either. He’d been beat up in love enough from my perspective. However, much to my dismay and disappointment the author gave him the most consistently tortured story so far. It almost felt like she loved hurting him. She played with him like a cat plays with a mouse. To me it felt cruel. By the end even though the author gave my beloved hero his forever love I felt she had been more cruel to him than the two villainesses she included in the story. This makes me sad because Rose has unsurpassed skill in developing characters and writing vivid flowing prose. I wish she was able to write a plot that didn’t torture everyone repeatedly until the last chapter. If she did she would be one of my top five favorite authors. I did love the ending of this story and I am sure many others will appreciate it as well. Just be prepared for it to take a long time to get to the happily ever after.

Real life drama
Revisado: 07-17-23
Finally a regency romance that is authentic to life. Rebecca Connolly is refreshing in her ability to write stories that do not depend on dramatic abductions and other such plot elements to generate excitement. For me the greatest enjoyment comes through being party to a well developed relationship rising from interpersonal conversations and interactions. Rebecca does this beautifully with the tension arising from believable and common foibles or human failures and weaknesses that are part of common life to this day…. Thus these stories could have happened! I can enjoy them and I don’t have to deal with the suspense of a contrived danger. Though having said that her London League series is one of my favorites of any author, with only the last book needing an adjustment to one character to be perfect. I hope to see all these books available on audible. It is greatly disappointing that they are not. Even if a different reader has to finish the series I would rather that than have them not available. Thank you Rebecca for the work you put in to craft these wonderful characters and stories.

Historia
Tall, dark, and dour, Captain Jasper Blunt was once hailed a military hero, but tales abound of his bastard children and his haunted estate in Yorkshire. What he requires now is a rich wife to ornament his isolated ruin, and he has his sights set on the enchanting Julia Wychwood. For Julia, an incurable romantic cursed with a crippling social anxiety, the only time she feels any confidence is on her horse. Unfortunately, a young lady can’t spend the whole of her life in the saddle, so Julia makes an impetuous decision to take her future by the reins—she proposes to Captain Blunt.

Finely crafted.
Revisado: 07-10-23
Mimi manifests her stories with such exquisite precision of word selection they seem to simply bloom in the mind without the use of words at all. Her prose simply conjures the thoughts and the story develops with fluid grace as though directly transcribed from her mind to one’s own. I love Mimi’s stories. I constantly loose myself in the life’s she creates with such authenticity I don’t need a narrator to hear the voices in my mind. This story is another gem - a happily ever after regency romance that has unexpected plot elements which make it refreshing and poignant from beginning to end.

Historia
Evelyn Maltravers understands exactly how little she's worth on the marriage mart. As an incurable bluestocking from a family tumbling swiftly toward ruin, she knows she'll never make a match in a ballroom. Her only hope is to distinguish herself by making the biggest splash in the one sphere she excels: on horseback. In haute couture. But to truly capture London's attention she'll need a habit-maker who's not afraid to take risks with his designs - and with his heart.

Mimi is a master story crafter. Like the tailor dressmaker in her story she creates a beautiful romance without an excess word or tedious embellishment all while honoring the authentic history of the era. Thank you, Mimi.

Practically Perfect
Revisado: 05-09-22
They only thing, in my humble and obviously subjective opinion, not perfect about this story is it’s final phrase and title. An alternate title such as Made for Montana or Montana Heiress along with the final phrase being: “mountain man” would have been better! So much for my petty exceptions. I really have no grounds for quibbling. Every word, every plot twist and every character are practically perfect from beginning to end. Thanks for an engrossing, satisfying and enjoyable “read.”

Fitting for any library of classics
Revisado: 04-28-22
For me, this hero is one of the most intimately revealed, complex, admirable and memorable created in pen and ink. The heroine’s narrow minded, judgmental viewpoint is both the worst and the best part of the narrative. Worst because she is long in her metamorphosis best because if the reader could benefit from her lessons in the odiousness of self righteous judgmentalism much can be learned in a manner calculated to linger long after the reading is past and perhaps permanently leave the reader altered for the better. I find myself feeling that reading this book once a year may be a worthy undertaking. While the heroines brilliant choice of action in relation to the hero is relieving, her obtuseness in some situations as the tale progresses can be a bit frustrating. However that may be, this tale deserves the designation of classic. Memorable hero or heroines are usually not flawless. Indeed, perhaps the flawed ones lodge most deeply in the heart.
