Narrators can ruin a book!
Revisado: 09-21-24
I did not like this book at all. I believe I couldn’t get past the narrator, who sounded more suited to read horror stories…haunted. I had to adjust the volume several times to hear all conversations and changed the speed of the narration just to get it to a somewhat normal tempo. Because of this, I gritted my teeth and got to the end. The story is not good. I don’t see what anybody can say that’s positive. I honestly had to look back to see if I indeed bought this or hit some button by mistake. I guarantee this will grate on your nerves to the end!

A Lovely Book
Revisado: 06-14-24
I don’t even know what to say. It’s a lovely book, that I listened to in audio form. Shout out to Aoife McMann in narration, a favorite of mine. It flows well and hits you with a range of emotions. You may guess the ending in short time, but it still captures your attention throughout. An easy read (or listen).

Historia
In this heartfelt memoir by the Masterpiece Theatre host, Pulitzer Prize winner, and groundbreaking New York Times columnist, Russell Baker traces his youth in the mountains of rural Virginia. When Baker was only five, his father died. His mother, strong-willed and matriarchal, never looked back. After all, she had three children to raise. These were Depression years, and Mrs. Baker moved her fledgling family to Baltimore. Baker's mother was determined her children would succeed, and we know her regimen worked for Russell.

Honestly I picked this story because I’m enchanted with Corey M. Snow’s narrating for Audible and this sounded like a decent story. It was more than decent. I had the pleasure of a great story, narrated perfectly by Mr. Snow. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

I Loved This Book…and I believe it’s best “read” through Audible
Revisado: 01-15-22
I first listened to The Little Orphan Girl and was enchanted by the “Irishness” of it…the story and the narrator Aoife McMahon transports you to an Ireland I can immerse myself in. A captivating story. I hesitated purchasing The Orphan’s Daughter…What more could be said? I’m so glad I got it. I couldn’t stop listening! It’s funny in places. I laughed at the no nonsense answers to the main character’s friends and such. (I’m still smiling/laughing about the girl who met her at the train station). I really can’t do this aspect of Ms Taylor’s writing justice. It’s also full of genuine love and care for others. Understanding, beauty in nature, thoughtfulness of even the smallest of gestures…things. I do believe that this is best if listened through Audible…the narration in accent gives it an extra specialness. I’ll be going back to hear this again and again…to transport myself to another time, another place and an honesty of feelings that is both refreshing and easing. Thank you Sandy Taylor.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Living on the Edge of a Marsh
Revisado: 07-25-21
This story caught my attention as I lived most of my life in and around the edge of the marshes and the sea. A gift. This story is not my story, but it grabbed me and held me. I LOVED it and will listen to it again and again. The narrator made this story even better than if I had read it myself, in my own mind. It gave the story a richer value. It’s a story that many can enjoy, for many reasons. It is plainly…a good read. But if you have the chance to “listen” to it, take it…you won’t be disappointed either way.

My name is Charlotte, and I have a special gift: I talk to the dead. Make no mistake, I can't summon them. I'm able only to see and speak to the spirits that linger when they're unable to cross over. They're somehow weighted to the world with unfinished affairs. And for the last six years, I've relentlessly used my gift to help their lost souls. But it's come at a price. My life is dark. Feeling despondent, I've begun to give up. And in helping the dead, I've realized I haven't allowed myself to live.

I laughed, I cried and more...
Revisado: 03-25-21
This was an easy and enjoyable read. Truthfully, I picked it for the narrator Corey M Snow...what a great voice and inflection to tell a story. The book has many good reviews and I took the chance. I really liked the story and as with other books in my Audible Library, I see myself going back to this one again. I have nothing in my library like this...An interesting pick. Note: although it does not bother me, those who shy away from cursing, this has some, but it does not ruin the story. It’s “just right”.

Revisado: 01-30-21
I thought I would never get through this! I’ve read many romance books, but this was tedious and wordy. I was determined to finish it because I’ve rejected so many others lately and people seem to like this. Not for me...I’m sorry.

Narrators can make a book better!
Revisado: 01-28-21
I love the Narrator Lara Asmundson and look for books she narrates. I have had a hard time finding books to satisfy my new and recent “cowboy craze”. While I have several authors I like, I find narration can make or break a story. These books are light reading for escape during turbulent times. I like all kinds of books, but have returned some because of narration. Something authors should take note of.
