Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

beautiful book
Revisado: 02-08-23
Anthony Doerr has become one of my favorite modern writers. I listened to this book in audio format and thought the story was captivating, complex, well acted and narrated. His characters are multidimensional and real, having great qualities and flaws.
Most of his books are about redemption and moral obligations we voluntarily take upon ourselves to correct our transgressions and set things right. This book has those themes running through it, along with many others. I enjoyed the span of time and historical events he captured.
I loved his language and style. It is so poetic and poignant and beautiful. I was especially delighted in how the author's love of books and hope in humanity shine through his work. I found it inspiring and touching and will be looking forward to more books from this wonderful writer.

Great from the first sentence to the last
Revisado: 06-08-21
Antony Doerr is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary writers. His stories are realistic with the touch of magic and mystery and his language...well...I would read a shopping list if it were written by him. This particular story is about life. The actions we take and mistakes we make trying to do our best under the circumstances. How hard it is at times to communicate with people we love and care about the most. It is about the misunderstandings and the grace of forgiving to yourself and others and the acceptance of the inevitable. It is about finding the strength in changing what seems to be impossible to change and finding courage to take second chances. The story takes the reader from Alaska to Ohio to St. Vincent and back to the various states in the United States, and Alaska, as the protagonist is searching for his estranged wife and daughter, who might or might not be alive. The descriptions of the nature of each of these places are absolutely stunning. It is also a story of finding kindness and kindred spirits in all the unexpected places and what it means to be a family. A wonderful story, beautifully written, captivating from the beginning to the very end.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Such an amazing book
Revisado: 03-29-21
It was recommended by a co-worker and as I'm always on a lookout for the new good books, I decided to check it out. What an amazing experience: beautifully written, captivating story that has it all- mystery, adventure, love, an ode to the human spirit and the thirst for knowledge and spirituality, a testament to the humanity good and bad and what it means to be a human being during the war and at times of peace. So many complex thoughts, ideas, layers, stories involving literal electromagnetic waves ranging from radio to visible light and the light that is inside us, guiding us to be the best we can be. I will definitely check out other books by Doerr. I am very impressed and cannot recommend this particular book highly enough. The reading was wonderful as well. Very impressed by the whole production.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.
