This is a poetic, deep dive into so many Americana, our unfortunate racist past, morals, social inequality, growing up, values, and so much more. Sissy’s reading is magical, capturing both the literary intention along with the sweet singing flavor of the south.

I would highly recommend this book to all.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Esther, and had just finished reading “Mating in Captivity” when I decided to read this book. I’m not even in a relationship right now but I was in a marriage for 20 years and experienced infidelity first hand so while I had no immediate motivations, I was still keenly interested.

This book is a holistic, objective, insightful, masterful study of infidelity in all its forms, relatable by anyone who has ever been in a serious relationship, married or not.

The precepts that Esther explores in this book reach well beyond just the affaire, revealing many of the realities of our human nature and tactfully challenging so many preconceived notions that so many of us have, which in turn opens your mind and heart to a much better understanding of the causes, meanings, outcomes, consequences and possibilities that infidelity brings.

I would avidly recommend that anyone in a relationship—no matter how happy—or anyone considering marriage, or newlyweds, read this book.

VERY frustrating listen due to a completely distracting narrator.

The narrator of this book has a pleasant enough voice, clear dictation and possesses the speaking capabilities to narrate, but has a thoroughly distracting habit of enunciating sentences incorrectly. In particular, prepositions. At, to, in, from, with, and the list goes on.

From the very beginning and all throughout the book, sentence meanings are obscured and much of your cognitive energy is spent wincing at the way he reads these otherwise simple sentences, and trying to reconstruct the ideas that the author must have wanted to convey through wildly mis-accented words. Strange thing is that every third/fourth sentence is correctly narrated, so it baffles me how he can get so much of it wrong.

It’s too bad, the book itself—while a bit scattered in terms of the details it gives for a book of this length—presents a good overview of the world’s religions, their origins, main players, etc. I’m very disappointed in the audiobook, as I really had to push through to the end, and much of the book’s ultimate value was lost simply to mental fatigue and frustration caused by the narrator.
