Historia
Cognitive therapy has gained acceptance among mental health professionals as well as the public. Research studies have confirmed cognitive therapy to be critical for individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, and other problems. "Cognition" describes the ways you perceive events or things at any particular moment. These thoughts go through your mind automatically, without much control from your end. They have a huge impact on how you generally feel.

Nothing You Don't Know
Revisado: 08-24-22
Short book. As useful as talking to a friend for 15 minutes. You already know everything. Author struggled to add filler to make more than a magazine article.

Outdated Para-Psychology from the 1960's
Revisado: 07-10-22
Summary: Jose Silva is full of shit. The narrator often calls Silva a "psychologist' and refers to his "research" but never actually describes said research and NEVER points to peer-reviewed papers. Stay at home moms with no college do better science in the kitchen than the purported science by Silva. Wikipedia refers to Jose Silva as a PARA-PSYCHOLOGIST from the 1960's. There were no control groups in any of the "studies." Christian theology books mention the name Jesus Christ fewer times per paragraph than this author mentions "Jose Silva" - it is quite annoying. "Jose Silva says ... Silva's research, therefore, ... In Jose Silva's own words ... Silva was asked to speak ... Silva ... Jose Silva ... Jose Silva." Every 2nd sentence. I suffered through the book to the end so that I could write this review. It is the same from first to last page. Bad from beginning to end. Great cover art - scientific looking - but as we know, don't judge a book by its cover.

Historia
This book (the result of meditation and experience) is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on the much written upon subject of the power of thought. It is suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that - "They themselves are makers of themselves" - by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage.

Long present a potentially life-changing proposal: Much of human life has an unconsidered component that explains an array of behaviors previously thought to be unrelated, including why winners cheat, why geniuses often suffer with mental illness, why nearly all diets fail, and more.

Explains Liberals vs Conservatives
Revisado: 01-02-22
The authors explain the MAJOR difference between dopamine and serotonin (and other H & N brain chemicals). Dopamine regulates future desires, and H&N regulate current pleasures. And it seems to be wired in with our DNA. This explains a lot of society's problems and how beliefs get passed down the generations - it's more than nurture. So what do we do with this knowledge? The listener will just ponder throughout the book.
Of course, like all such books, the authors eventually try squeezing all sorts of behavioral and sociological data into this theory. Very weak correlational data between conservatives and liberals is attributed to supply or lack of dopamine (with the standard "partly" qualifier). At some point when you get 51% vs 49% you wonder if the tides, zodiac, or who won the Superbowl might have more influence than a brain chemical. But for the first 90% of this book I am mostly a believer. I do think that the researchers who look for a positive outcome have designed experiments where only a positive outcome can be measured, more or less. But I don't have the time to go through this book again to find where these experiments were mentioned.

Historia
From social anxiety to phobias to post-traumatic stress disorder, sources of anxiety in daily life are numerous, and can have a powerful impact on your future. By following the rules of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), created by world renowned therapist Dr. Albert Ellis, you can stop anxiety in its tracks if you will admit this important fact: Things and people do not make you anxious. You do. Your unrealistic expectations produce your needless anxiety. Yet not all anxiety is needless....

Maybe it's a reference book, because it is as entertaining and educational in audio as listening to a book of mathematical formulas. And the repetitive examples seem sarcastic.

Historia
Ours is an urban age. From Uruk and Eridu in ancient Mesopotamia to London and New York City in the 21st century, cities have long supported and sustained what makes us human. But can they survive the next 100 years? If so, they’re going to have to remain livable. In this 10-lecture series, focusing on that livability is at the heart of livable cities, Professor Mark Alan Hughes discusses why we seek out cities and how they create the conditions that allow us to meet our fundamental needs as individuals and as a human community.

Only for Woke Socialists
Revisado: 07-23-21
Author Mr. Hughes has gone off the deep, left end of logic. SUMMARY: Rich, white people must pay to fund a system where all folks who live in the cities can vote on how to spend the extra money.
Lots of words the socialists throw around like "collaboration," "belonging," "awareness," "work together," yada yada. You know the story. Nothing about those on welfare getting jobs to make the city better. Nothing about stopping crime from WITHIN the community or family. No, Mr. Hughes wants to defund the police and spend the difference on social programs "to help." The performance continually pulls in data from obscure sources to motivate an argument. Usually this data is obviously only the tip of the story and could be looked at in opposite ways, but we just move on. All this data is akin to hearing someone read the phone book - a serious annoyance. The only audible book of hundreds I could not finish.

Historia
In this absorbing and frequently contentious book, Roger Penrose puts forward his view that there are some facets of human thinking that can never be emulated by a machine. The book's central concern is what philosophers call the "mind-body problem". Penrose examines what physics and mathematics can tell us about how the mind works, what they can't, and what we need to know to understand the physical processes of consciousness.

Equations don't work in audio
Revisado: 06-26-21
One of the most important books in philosophy of science. But long sections of equations and mathematical examples that work in print because they are chart-like but not in audio. Some parts are a half hour of math jibberish (and I understood most of the math in print). Still, most is not math and the philosophy translates perfectly.

Historia
In his sixth fable, best-selling author Patrick Lencioni takes on a topic that almost everyone can relate to: the causes of a miserable job. Millions of workers, even those who have carefully chosen careers based on true passions and interests, dread going to work, suffering each day as they trudge to jobs that make them cynical, weary, and frustrated. It is a simple fact of business life that any job, from investment banker to dishwasher, can become miserable.

Historia
Devora Zack, an avowed introvert and a successful consultant who speaks to thousands of people every year, found that most networking advice books assume that to succeed you have to become an extrovert. Or at least learn how to fake it. Not at all. There is another way. This audiobook shatters stereotypes about people who dislike networking. They’re not shy or misanthropic. Rather, they tend to be reflective - they think before they talk. They focus intensely on a few things rather than broadly on a lot of things. And they need time alone to recharge.

Introverts are special. Don't feel bad if others get promoted. You think first and then speak which is great. But use this book on how to open up. This is a lightweight intro book.
