Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Historia
"My name is 'J' and I'm awkward--and Black. Someone once told me those were the two worst things anyone could be. That someone was right. Where do I start?" Being an introvert in a world that glorifies cool isn't easy. But when Issa Rae, the creator of the Shorty Award-winning hit series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is that introvert--whether she's navigating love, work, friendships, or rapping--it sure is entertaining.

Wanted to like this but lacks substance/purpose
Revisado: 03-18-21
This book is a compilation of childhood stories that don't really inspire or commit to any overall lessons learned or revalations. I was particularly disappointed at the lack of disclaimers around topics like fasting for 10-days to be skinny. She says she was proud of her committment to fasting and that she finally had abs. Then says she tried to do it again but loves food too much. Girls today need a better message and her omission of any commentary on this subject really disturbed me. Issa Rae is an icon, a role model and repeatedly this book does not deliver in the ways I wanted or expected. Her life is interesting no doubt but if you're looking for deeper meaning, inspiration, or even a well-rounded narrative.. you can skip this one. It ends very abruptly and almost doesn't even feel finished. Issa is a great narrator and I love her other content but this book is very much lacking. It needs more depth, clarity, and purpose. It is awkward in all the wrong ways. Total bummer.

Thank you Michelle!
Revisado: 11-23-18
Having lately felt rather ambivalent and disgruntled about my country, Michelle has transformed my outlook. She is an inspiration and a beacon of light through the bigotry and hate that exists in our world. I am proud to have served in the military during the Obama years and know that their vision and progress will live on...I am becoming...optimistic, free, and proud. I never thought much about the struggles and sacrifices of living in the public eye, as she did with so much grace I might add, but thank you Michelle for giving yourself to this country and to the world. This book brought me to tears, both happy and sad. I want live in a country where equality, teamwork, and respect are the cornerstones of our values and Michelle did and is still trying to do everything she can to make that a reality. I am humbled by her honesty in this book and appreciative of all she has given.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Splendid Audio-Version of this Classic!
Revisado: 08-12-17
Incredible performance by Thandie Newton although I wasn't very found of her portrayal of Mr. Rochester. He didn't sound very amiable as the text would have one to believe. Overall, I greatly appreciate this piece having been adapted to audio and furthermore, that it is so easy and pleasing to the ear. I may in fact play this countless times over if I find myself restless or having trouble sleeping. Also, I would never have read this book cover to cover. This audio version makes this classic so accessible to the modern reader/listener. Loved it!!

Historia
Snowing in Bali is the story of the drug trafficking and dealing scene that's made Bali one of the world's most important destinations in the global distribution of narcotics. With its central location to the Asia Pacific market, its thriving tourist industry to act as cover for importation, and a culture of corruption that can easily help law enforcement turn a blind eye, Bali has long been a paradise for traffickers as well as for holiday-makers. Kathryn Bonella, best-selling author of Hotel Kerobokan, has been given extraordinary access into the lives of some of the biggest players in Bali's drug world, both past and present.

Great narration. Enjoyed the book. Neat to get the scoop, but not sure about the way the guys were portrayed. Seems the author was humanizing them a bit too much. Feel like there has to be more to the story. The excitement of the "game" was glamorized a bit too much for my taste. Would recommend it! ...just proceed with some cognitive distance and healthy skepticism.

The story itself is fantastic and Simon Vance does an incredible job of narrating. All 3 audiobooks in this series kept me eagerly engaged and wanting more. Will be looking for some other works read by Simon Vance next.
