Historia
Great speeches have influenced people, swayed the outcome of historical events, motivated people to wage wars and urged people to fight injustice and to even lay down their lives. Words, in other words, can comfort people during a tragedy, can move soldiers and partisans to risk life and limb, raise levels of patriotism and even change the course of history. Oratory is thus the art of influencing people, and those who master this skill command an almost godlike power. Hear more about the art of influencing people in this quick listen.

Reads like a college term paper
Revisado: 02-11-25
The irony is thick here, with the author defining the difference between logic-based speech, which does not influence, and emotion-laced oratory, which can influence, in the driest, dullest terms possible.
It influenced me to quit listening halfway through.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Unlistenable at times

This is the worst audiobook I’ve ever finished. A devoted Stephen King fan, I’ve committed to listening to all of his books, even if I’ve already read them, as I had with Insomnia. While hardly one of my favorites, my problem with this version isn’t so much the story as the production.
Although Eli Wallach sometimes sounds like he’s reading Winnie the Pooh, it’s the music that makes difficult to finish. Screeching - and painful if played at a high volume - it adds nothing to the story and severely detracts from it.
