Great series!
Revisado: 12-28-22
Not even my usual genre but W. Michael Gear never disappoints. The story, the characters, an entirely new and different environment, all so well- developed. Couldn't wait for each subsequent book.

Historia
Corporate assassin Tamarland Benteen's last hope is the survey ship, Vixen. With a load of scientists aboard under the supervision of Dr. Dortmund Weisbacher, Vixen is tasked with the first comprehensive survey of the newly discovered planet called Donovan. Given that, back in Solar System, Boardmember Radcek would have Benteen's brain dissected, he's particularly motivated to make his escape. The transition that should have taken Vixen years is instantaneous. Worse, a space ship is already orbiting Donovan and human settlements have been established on the planet.

Wonderful Series
Revisado: 03-13-20
W. Michael Gear has been one of my favorite authors since I picked up a paperback on a layover, Long Ride Home, back in the 90's. I wasn't sure I would like this series since it really isn't my genre but once started I couldn't stop. It didn't disappoint at all. And now I see there is a fourth book coming soon. I can't wait.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Where is Simon Prebble?
Revisado: 01-16-14
I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy with this final book being the best, mainly because there was so much more of the Laird in this book. I would liked to have heard it narrated by Simon Prebble. I did like the soft Scottish brogue Matthew Brenher gave to the Laird in the first two books but then he never used it in the third book, even after they returned to Scotland. Even worse, the original Cynsters all sounded completely different than their original voices as established by Simon Prebble. Very disconcerting. But even so, I'll be listening to it again.

Great read, great listen
Revisado: 10-03-11
I'd already read the book twice so I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend hours listening to it. It was on sale so I decided to give it a try. It was just as great as I remembered and it had been long enough since I read it for me to enjoy all the details. John Lee did a great job of bringing the characters to life. Now on to World Without End. I've only read that once!

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Lacking...
Revisado: 09-20-11
I've tried twice to listen to this book, but I just can't seem to stick with it. The plot just doesn't move along. The narration is so-so and that may be part of the problem.

Great story, great characters
Revisado: 07-07-11
I thoroughly enjoyed this saga, all four books. McMurtry did not disappoint with great characters, tying in historical characters and events, and bringing the harsh reality of the frontier to life. Alfred Molina was perfect as well. I'm just sorry it's done.
