Historia
Vernon Alverstoke sees no reason to put himself out for anyone. But when a distant connection asks for help, he is quickly plunged into one drama after another by the disorderly Merriville family. Surprisingly, he finds himself far from bored - especially when he encounters their strong-minded daughter, Frederica. However, she seems far more concerned with her family's welfare than his romantic advances.

the many different character accents that helped to ID them throughout..I enjoyed the smooth and realistic delivery as well.

Heyer is a master
Revisado: 06-02-24
I always tell people Heyer is equal parts Jane Austin, a good 1930’s screwball comedy ie Brining up Baby and a heavy dose of charm. If one of those appeal to you take the chance and try to not fall in love. Favorites - Grand Sofie, Frederica, Cotillion

Loved loved loved
Revisado: 03-30-23
I love Beth’s books. I really would recommend her to almost anyone and I usually don’t say that. Her characters are so complex and I love how she bridges the gap between light hearted and important social or mental issues. That even though the tone is usually light you are getting some substance not just manufactured romance.
I have never seen anyone do a more beautiful job of bringing characters to life that have represent so many different abilities in literature.

Historia
From the moment He arrived on the scene, Jesus posed a threat to the unjust, a threat to the oppressors, and a threat to every semblance of authority wielded by the kingdom of darkness. He invaded the world with love for the forgotten, hope for the hopeless, and freedom for the bound. His ideas were disruptive, subversive, and scandalous to the world around Him.

Historia
Kit Averin is anything but a gambler. A scientist with a quiet, steady job at a university, Kit's focus has always been maintaining the acceptable status quo. Being a sudden millionaire doesn't change that, with one exception: the fixer-upper she plans to buy, her first and only real home. It's more than enough to keep her busy, until an unsettlingly handsome, charming, and determined corporate recruiter shows up in her lab - and manages to work his way into her heart.

Very sweary
Revisado: 01-20-23
Every line the male character has is populated with f booms and other lovely additions that just took me out of the story. Swearing in books like the right use of technology is hard (people this age don’t call each other right off.) I get people talk like this but how it comes a cross is very negative in book format.

So glad I didn’t pay for it!
Revisado: 09-02-20
The writing of the story is completely flawed. It seems like the author has forgotten about how children interact and writes like an adult writing for children.

Endearing
Revisado: 08-20-19
These Mitford books ( and this one is no exception ) have made me laugh, cry and offered consolation because Jan Karon’s characters ring so true. In all of her books there are threads of grace and goodness running through the story lines. She never lets us forget our true hero Jesus for He is the lifeblood and motivation for everything Father Tim does.
Jan Karon you have changed my life through your books. Thank you ,

A man’s idea of how women communicate
Revisado: 03-13-18
The story is okay, it does ramble in parts. Not great but I love cosy English crime so it didn’t bother me too much. What really disappointed me was the relationship between the two main characters. It just felt wrong and I couldn’t put a finger on it until I realized this is exactly how I have seen guys mimic women interactions between ourselves. I applaud a man taking on a female lead character but a little more study is needed.

Lovely story! - Hate the reader!
Revisado: 08-11-15
I am pretty open minded and so I didn't worry about the reader even after reading the reviews negatively comparing him with the wonderful John McDonough (even though true). It was the hard quick tone that he used in dialog between Father T and Cynthia that was almost sarcastic and definitely and not in keeping with the spirit of the characters. The way he read some of the text it it almost made me dislike Cynthia! Something that I never though could remotely happen.
