Love this series
Revisado: 02-20-23
So far I'm on book 4 of the series. I've enjoyed all 4 books. I have a slight problem with the narrator -- he has a WONDERFUL voice. It's just that his decisions on where to slow down, and even more glaring where to pause, are very very abnormal to what I'm used to hearing. At first I thought he just wasn't very good, but he IS good. He uses a slightly different voice for all the characters, keeps up with it through each book, and like I said, has one heckofa great voice. He mentions this strange cadence at the end of this Book (Dixie Moon) and says he likes to play with the readers with it. I tried to contact him through facebook and this website to not say this publicly, but failing that, decided to make it part of my review. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the books in the series, and I've gotten used to the pauses in crazy places and odd inflections SO, I hope he performs the rest of the series. And I would caution anyone who is put off by the oddness to give it a chance, because the series is good enough to get used to him. Truly -- get used to him so you can hear what happens in this great series and enjoy the rich (and quite frankly sexy) timbre of his voice!

Historia
Ten years ago, a man and his girlfriend went into the woods at the end of Claver Road on what was supposed to be a weekend's camping trip, and never returned. Police combed the area, but nothing was found except for his car, abandoned where they'd parked it. It seemed like Brad Ellicott and Cara Marshall had been swallowed by the silent, brooding forest, leaving not a trace of what had happened or where they went.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! Mr. Bonett's writing style is so engaging and interesting that I really enjoyed listening, and was glad to be able to get back into it after having to shut it off to do something else. The suspense is so good I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I didn't expect the ending, which is also another big plus for me. I'm glad he narrated it and look forward to hearing him narrate more of his fantastic books. There were a few minor technical glitches but I'll be listening to it again, and want more of his books -- with him narrating -- on Audible please!

Speaking of Gaslighting
Revisado: 03-23-21
I can't believe there are 5-star reviews of this book. The reader sounds like one of the mechanical reading programs. The words "he" and "she" are mixed up in a way that seems like they changed it some random number of times it was used to keep in line with not using one gender over another too often. So they're talking about a man and a woman, and they change the "he" and "she" so randomly that it doesn't make sense unless you stop listening to those two words and only listen to the changes from one person to another based on other evidence. It says it's in English, but it sounds like it's been translated either by a computer or by someone who is not fluent in English and some other language in which it was written. I'm not just disappointed, I'm a little angry -- I used to be able to trust Audible to only publish high-quality audiobooks. Of the hundreds of books I've purchased from them, not one has been even close to this completely awful. Now I will have to listen to part of every book before I purchase it.

For the Sisterhood, there's a special satisfaction that comes with helping a friend in need, especially when its someone as dear as Charlotte Hansen. Myra Rutledge's childhood friend has spent tens of thousands of dollars on remedies to boost longevity. But far from improving her health, the medications seem to be destroying it. Myra becomes suspicious of the trio of doctors in charge of the program, especially once the Sisterhood's investigations reveal that one patient has died and another lapsed into a coma.

Yeah, a little bit of a pill
Revisado: 02-14-21
Fern Michaels is one of my very favorite authors, and I am always chomping at the bit for the next book in her Sisterhood Series. This one was a bit of a disappointment though, and it surprised me greatly that it wasn't up to her usual standard. In my opinion, this one was both predictable and redundant in ways that made me wonder if the original storyline was too short and had a lot of duplicate information thrown in at the last minute to make it long enough and still reach a deadline? I have listened to most of her books twice. I did listen to this one to the end, but I didn't enjoy it well enough to ever listen to it again. Huge kudos to her reader though -- that was 100% top-notch as always, and probably the only reason I did listen to the end. Laural Merlington is so great. I'm looking forward to more from both the author and the reader.

Loved it!
Revisado: 02-14-21
I'm already fascinated by inter-generational stories and family histories. This book did not disappoint! It was interesting all the way through, with just enough information to keep me guessing and wanting to continue to the conclusion, with an added bonus of suspense and romance to round out the story. I love these family tales, even though they are fiction. Great read.

Historia
In 1844, two years before the Donner Party, the Stevens-Murphy company left Missouri to be the first wagons into California through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mostly Irish Catholics, the party sought religious freedom and education in the mission-dominated land and enjoyed a safe journey - until October, when a heavy snowstorm forced difficult decisions. The first of many for young Mary Sullivan, newlywed Sarah Montgomery, the widow Ellen Murphy, and her pregnant sister-in-law Maolisa.

Sad but interesting
Revisado: 02-14-21
I didn't know these parties were stranded and starving before the Donner Party. How sad that the Donner Party didn't learn from this party's experiences. The narration was pleasant to listen to, and the story, although so very sad, was written in terms descriptive enough to be accurate while at the same time, not too gory. Sad and real, but so interesting.

Historia
When Sharifa and her husband travel to India, she expects her time will be spent researching her great-great grandfather, a wealthy businessman and philanthropist. However, what she doesn’t expect is to be swept up in the story of his four wives, oddly excluded from her family history. As Sharifa’s imagination is overtaken with these four women, she finds herself in the middle of another female-centered conflict - a conservative, religious ritual that has been going on for centuries.

Wow!!! And a heads up
Revisado: 10-25-20
Another fascinating book about life in a particular part of India. The heroine goes back to India from her home in the United States of America and researches her family history. As she is getting re-acquainted with some of her female cousins, the story goes back and forth between the early 20th and early 21st centuries. Well written, with segues making the changeovers easy to follow. The heads up part is what I consider to be important in the description of this book. I did love it. It does get into the topic of khatna, or FGM (female genital mutilation), so there is some very plain talk about female physiology and sex. I'm old fashioned and am generally not interested in this kind of writing. But, for me, unlike the Shades of Gray book, which some people have called lite porn, I found this book to be actually quite wholesome, informative, and poignant. I enjoyed the reader's accent very much. It is easy to understand her pronunciation, although to me, it is quite Indian sounding. Her tonal inflections are also appropriately dramatic, deadly serious, and everything in between, as the narrative requires. I do recommend this book.

Revisado: 10-12-20
The reader has a marvelous deep timbred voice which in itself is a pleasure to listen to . And the story is interesting enough that I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next! Lots of killing, and kind of gory, but still a compelling read.

Got more work done!!!
Revisado: 10-12-20
Another of Gordon's amazing books! When I was a little girl, I loved Alfred Hitchcock magazine with all his mysteries. Well, Gordon Bonnet reminds me of Hitchcock married to Twilight Zone! I listen to many books a month while driving or doing yard and household chores, and this is one of the few that I didn't want to stop listening to. Which meant I had to just keep working because work is my excuse to listen to books. Characters who are real, situations which keep you guessing, but which you absolutely have to learn how they turned out, and a continuous buildup to a surprise at the end. Love this author and so glad he's on Audiobooks now!

Revisado: 10-12-20
What a disappointment! I wish Audible had been more forthcoming that this was a lesbian tale. Regardless of my acceptance and non-judgmental opinions about the lifestyle and the genre, I'm no more interested in reading about it than I am in reading gory thrillers, nor religious stories. Fine for those who like them -- I don't. Had I been clued in just a tad more clearly, I would never have ordered it. That said, IF a person IS interested in books about lesbians, they might enjoy it.
