Well written, except all the abortions
Revisado: 10-11-24
I really enjoyed the three Weyward women's stories and the three different timelines. The three different narrators were also really great with only a few hiccups here and there. What really bothered me about this book is the string abortion theme. We must stop confusing female empowerment with the ability to have an abortion. Female empowerment doesn't mean drinking abortion tea and killing an innocent life. The author is confusing female freedom with what is right and wrong. Really took away from the book. I appreciate that the author addressed the issues of misogyny and sexual assault against women. I don't like that she so casually uses abortion as a means to an end. survivors of sexual abuse and women who regret having abortions may find this book triggering.

Historia
Lucia and her sisters grew up on the edge of Mockbeggar Woods. They knew it well—its danger, but also its beauty. As a lonely teenager, Kate was drawn to these sisters, who were unlike anyone she’d ever met. But when they brought her into the woods, something dark was awakened, and Kate has never been able to escape the terrible truth of what happened there. Now, Kate is returning home for the first time in years—for Sam and Chloe’s wedding. But the woods are stirring again, and Kate must reconnect with Lucia, her first love, to protect Chloe, the village, and herself.

Long and tedious
Revisado: 04-02-23
The story itself is interesting and different. However, the telling is just so long and arduous. It took me months to finish this book because I kept passing it over for more exciting books. I caught a couple pronunciation errors, otherwise, the narrator had a very pleasing voice. I really wanted to like this but it was tedious and sleepy.

Historia
Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. Three weeks later they fled in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His horror memoir of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity — and skepticism.

Lots of twists but too PG for me
Revisado: 04-21-22
I didn't especially care for the male or female narrator for this audiobook. I ended up reading the book instead because the narrators just didn't lend to the story's creepiness. The male narrator sounded a bit robotic. The story itself does have lots of little twists and turns, but it does drag on (nearly 400 pages). I was looking for something scary and suspenseful and this fell flat for me. This would make a great Amityville-esque movie where they could use sound and visual effects to induce the scares the writer was trying to get across with her words. A bit lackluster but I did finish all the way to the end.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Slow and unexciting
Revisado: 03-09-21
This book came highly recommend by a coworker but I was disappointed. I found this ebook easy too slow in its telling. Boring until the 2/3 through. I really dislike the male narration which is the bulk of this book. I actually checked several times to make sure that I didn't have the reading speed slow down because the way he spoke was so slow. I enjoyed the female narrator. The climax of this book was indeed surprising but it was so long in its coming that it didn't really make the book worth it. If I wasn't on a road trip and unable to choose a different selection I probably would have stopped listening and switched to a different ebook.

Yay for Rill, mehhh for Avery
Revisado: 11-19-20
Like other reviewers, I loved Rill's story (the past) and was bored with Avery's chapters (the present). Avery's plays were cheesy and pretty boring except maybe the last couple chapters. Rill's chapters will grab you and stick. That being said, it is an amazing story, very long, but amazing.

The story was interesting but too long. I never felt truly connected to the main character.
