Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.

Incredibly powerful
Revisado: 04-28-25
An engaging book that shines a light on the often deplorable actions humans in power have committed against other humans and the very earth upon which we all live.

Main voice is rather annoying.
Revisado: 12-14-22
Main voice is a bit annoying. His pronunciation and the syllables he stresses are sometimes grating on the nerves. He seems to have a British accent which is usually great but I find this person’s voice annoying.

Historia
George V. Higgins's seminal crime novel is a down-and-dirty tale of thieves, mobsters, and cops on the mean streets of Boston. When small-time gunrunner Eddie Coyle is convicted on a felony, he's looking at three years in the pen—that is, unless he sells out one of his big-fish clients to the DA. But which of the many hoods, gunmen, and executioners whom he calls his friends should he send up the river? Told almost entirely in crackling dialogue by a vivid cast of lowlifes and detectives, The Friends of Eddie Coyle is one of the greatest crime novels ever written.

The story is quite interesting but seems to be developing rather slowly. While I enjoy the story it would be nice if it would speed up a bit.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

This book was a very engaging story about our world today and helped open my eyes to some of the amazing achievements humans have made around the world. It encouraged me to be more positive about the state of our planet today but also excited my curiosity about what I can do to help make the world even better.

This is a must-read!!
Revisado: 04-22-18
Mr. Comey provides listeners a captivating story that is full of great stories and examples. He takes the listener through his life of public service and explains how he has learned from his own mistakes as well as the actions of others.
I have not paid attention to politics until the last couple of years and completely agree with Mr. Comey's recommendations that we all need to stand up for values and equality regardless of partisan affiliation. I am very sad the country I love has gotten to this point but am optimistic about the future as more people from all different backgrounds are speaking out against the dishonest and unethical behavior of many politicians.

Historia
In this riveting debut, a telepathic girl must figure out why she is the key to her brand-new world - before the wrong person finds the answer first. Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit into her life. She’s skipped multiple grades and doesn’t really connect with the older kids at school, but she’s not comfortable with her family, either. And Sophie has a secret - she’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone.

Historia
It is now 100 years since drugs were first banned in the United States. On the eve of this centenary, journalist Johann Hari set off on an epic three-year, 30,000-mile journey into the war on drugs. What he found is that more and more people all over the world have begun to recognize three startling truths: Drugs are not what we think they are. Addiction is not what we think it is. And the drug war has very different motives to the ones we have seen on our TV screens for so long.
