Historia
Jane Austen completed Persuasion in August 1816. It was to be her last book. She left us with the story of Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth, and she left them approaching happily ever after. What happens the day following happily ever after? The story of Kellynch picks up three years after the couple married and were able to secure the Kellynch estate from Sir Walter when cousin William Elliot agreed to waive the entailment. It would seem all is well with the young couple, but all is not as it seems.

Not Austen..

Awful. The story is discordant with the original Persuasion..the about face in characters unbelievable, the treatment of the horrors of slavery is shallow. The narrator has a good voice, but her style is unsuited to the material.

Historia
Evan MacIan is a tall, dark-haired, blue-eyed Scottish Highlander and a devout Roman Catholic. James Turnbull is a short, red-haired, gray-eyed Lowlander and a devout but naïve atheist. The two meet when MacIan smashes the window of the street office where Turnbull publishes an atheist journal. This act of rage occurs when MacIan sees posted on the shop's window a sheet that blasphemes the Virgin Mary, presumably implying she was an adulteress who gave birth to an illegitimate Jesus.

I listen to this a few times a year. The performance is stellar. I wish Gildart Jackson narrated more books...

Never tire of listening to this lovely tale.

I'm always impressed at how Austen can hold a delicate tension in situation and speech, owing to the depth and modesty of her best characters.

Historia
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.
