Historia
Britain has a single pod of orca, also known as killer whales, native to its home waters, although other orca visit from more northern regions. In 2014, Dr. Natalie Sanders joined the crew of the HV Silurian to seek them out and study them before we lose them forever. In The Last Sunset in the West, she discusses them one by one, and the many issues surrounding their lives in a captivating account that will take the listener deep into the history of our relations with the sentient and beautiful creatures.

Experiences & sightings were phenomenal!

I absolutely LOVE the fact that this book was purely based on actual, real-life experiences. I am beyond jealous of everything the author has encountered, and I continue to hope and pray for all our marine mammals’ well-being! Thank you for your insight on your trip and facts about our animals that many people might not know about. I’ve enjoyed this wonderfully narrated and written book. Thank you!

Unbelievable!
Revisado: 12-20-24
I’ve had a serious obsession with orcas for years, and I’ve followed Tokitae’s story ever since I’ve heard about it. And to hear your actual, personal experience with the Lummi Nation (thank you to all who participated and spoke in this), nonetheless the constant fight to bring her back home, is absolutely touching and surreal! The orca program went on way too long at Seaworld, and the best news of my life was when they were found GUILTY (cause they are) by the court and when they announced they’d stop the breeding program. Those people are so unbelievably shameful. The same for the people who hunted the orcas. No way you don’t know what you’re doing is not wrong when you hear them crying for their mothers the way they did. I can go on for years, so I’m just going to stop here. Thank you so much for sharing, Bonnie! You and everyone fighting for her make me feel like there is hope!

Historia
In 2002, a young orca was discovered near Seattle - lost, alone, and 300 miles away from home. Six months later she was rescued, rehabilitated and reunited with her family on the north end of Vancouver Island. Today Springer is thriving, with two calves of her own. It's the only successful orca reunion in history!

Historia
Over the course of two decades, John Hargrove worked with 20 different whales on two continents and at two of SeaWorld's U.S. facilities. For Hargrove, becoming an orca trainer fulfilled a childhood dream. However, as his experience with the whales deepened, Hargrove came to doubt that their needs could ever be met in captivity.

PHENOMENAL!
Revisado: 11-18-24
This book was by far the most interesting, detailed, heart-warming I’ve ever had the privilege of reading (listening to). I’ve had a fascinated interest in orcas and SeaWorld, but after “Blackfish,” and now this, it has opened my eyes to see and understand the reality. Thank you John Hargrove for such a wonderful experience! If I could give this book a trillion stars, I would! And the speaker, reading out loud, was also IMPECCABLE! I was engaged throughout the whole book and I’m going to listen to it again, over and over again.
