This story was very entertaining! I loved how well developed the characters are, as well as the plot. It was concise and thoroughly felt out – not rushed. This did make the book longer than most though. For an audiobook it was 26 hours and 10 minutes. (If you’ve ever been an audiobook listener then you know most are usually less than half that amount!) But, that was not the least bit daunting or disappointing for me.
It’s not writing that I would call beautiful but it didn’t cause me physical pain to listen to it either. Very few redundancies in phrases or scene set up. The perspective bounces from character to character in full chapters as well as short burst or snippets. This may be the contributor of the stilted and disjointed feeling others have expressed.

If you’re considering the book for reading, definitely consider giving the audiobook a try. The narrator, Kyle McCarley, does an AMAZING JOB! McCarley has a change of voice for each character and only two of which I think sounded the same….I stopped counting after 20 different characters! It’s phenomenal!

Great plot. Nice rise to the crux of the story. Sensible completion of the conflict and expert set up for the second book!

Just, really…it’s so much fun and so good!

Same level of writing and story as the previous book was, but we get more details, more plot development, more character development, more inter-character development….it’s just really good! One might even think that there might not be enough story or plot to develop from the first book, but you would be wrong. I’m so enthralled by how creative Drew Hayes is with the creation of this world and his characters. I’m so excited to listen to year three!

The narrator is still knocking it outta tha park too! McCarley is just FANTASTIC with his voice changes and inflections. If you pay close attention to him narrating this story, then you will be able to tell it’s a dude throwing his voice to sound like a girl for some of the characters. But, if you are actually listening to the story being read, you completely loose perception of that fact. He’s convincing and it’s astounding to me.
Great writing, great characters, great plot!

Revisado: 04-29-13

Where does Uglies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Just short of all time favorite listens.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tally Youngblood. She's the main character so by default she will get the most favoritism. But its because her character is more crafted than the other.

Which character – as performed by Carine Montbertrand – was your favorite?

David. Least amount of "Valley girl" sound in his voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Standards of Normal will be obliterated.

Any additional comments?

good story. a bit immature but still a good story. at least its creative.

Would you consider the audio edition of Love in the Afternoon to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version.

If you’ve listened to books by Alison Packard before, how does this one compare?

I have not listened to books by Alison Packard before.

What about Gia St. Claire’s performance did you like?

She did a good job. Voice changes are key. she could used to develope them a bit.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it was just another story. Nothing really struck me about it.

Any additional comments?

Decent story, I got it for free on Feb 14th so I cant complain too much. A touch predictable, but at least it was in a setting I dont usually have anything to do with (soap opera set)

What did you love best about Two for the Dough?

Another good Stephanie Plum story. I like the humor Janet Evanovish puts in her books. Keeps you entertained for sure.

What other book might you compare Two for the Dough to and why?

One for the Money...

What does C. J. Critt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a good job of changing her voice to accomidate the character changes. Plus she seems to have a real boston accent which is helpful since the story is based in that area.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I need a friend like Rex

Where does Pride and Prejudice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've only listened to 8 and I would say somewhere at about 5 or 6 based off of performace alone. The narrator was not very good; it became hard to distinguish between characters in places.

What other book might you compare Pride and Prejudice to and why?

Classics really are the only one that should be compaired against each other. I would say it has a great story like The Count Of Monte Cristo.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Cant say there was someting I liked but I didnt like the Narrators performance. The narrator was not very good; it became hard to distinguish between characters in places.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Classically Proud

What disappointed you about Fifty Shades Freed?

In a word, ALL. I listened to the whole trilogy only to be completely disappointed in the books as well as society for liking them.

The only thing worse than the plot line was the way it was written. I don’t know how many times I heard "Oh my", “and in that moment” and "subconscious" but it was incredibly annoying. (How would someone even know, as well as Ana seems to know, what is going on in their subconscious? Wouldn’t it be more accurately defined as your “conscious” since Ana is actively aware of the thoughts coming from it?)

James did not once try to change the words used to explain the story. If it had been me I would have pulled out a thesaurus I’ve owned since elementary school to help break it up.
The repetition was beyond annoying.

Then from their the character compositions were dreadful with Christian’s ridiculous predispositions and then sudden changes of heart and then enduring the self-revelations and pitiful self-doubt of Ana that were on every page. I mean really, are we watching a baby take its first steps or picturing and adult woman consenting to intercourse?!?! The maturity level of Ana is just sad and I would have thought that given the nature of the content in this book James would have done a better job of creating characters capable of consenting and enjoying themselves.

Then there is the underlining idea that you can change someone or that you can just decide not to be something so extreme that you have been for so long (applicable to various aspects/dispositions in life.) Wrong, and women everywhere should be advised; its not love if you have to change the person.

I kept hearing people raving about how liberating these books were and how after reading it women felt empowered….was this a section of the book that was left out of my unabridged audio book? I was anything but liberated and empowered because of these books. I found myself bored the more I listened and then annoyed that I was bored and not finding a better use of my hearing ability.

Would you ever listen to anything by E. L. James again?

NO. I doubt James's writing skill will improve at this point, and these books burned my so bad, I wont give her books a second look.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?

Hard to say, since the story sucked to begin with. Even the best of narrators would crash and burn with this story.

What character would you cut from Fifty Shades Freed?

Ana. Ridiculous, annoying, immature kid....I could deal with Christian's character flaws if Ana were gone...

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your time if you are wanting a "steamy" story.

My mother started reading these sometime when I was in high school, and I can remember we would be sitting there and all of a sudden she would just bust out laughing while reading these books. I have heard both good and bad about this series but dedided to check it out for myself.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book, it was refreshing to have a story with a plot that actually had a climax of excitment. I did not have many of the "bent over laughing" moments, but my sense of humor is different from some people, and can say that most of the funny content did make me smirk with appreciation for the humor.

I appreciate that the narrator actually had the appropriate accent for the characters, but I would have liked to hear her have more voice changes as characters spoke. She did to some extent, but they were not significant enough of a difference to really distinguish the characters from each other.

Overall it was a good listen. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something different than what they typically listen to. (It doesnt really fit in with the mystery category, and is still different from comedy and humor)
