Historia
For decades after 1945, it was generally believed that the German army, professional and morally decent, had largely stood apart from the SS, Gestapo, and other corps of the Nazi machine. Ben Shepherd draws on a wealth of primary sources and recent scholarship to convey a much darker, more complex picture. For the first time, the German army is examined throughout the Second World War, across all combat theaters and occupied regions, and from multiple perspectives: its battle performance, social composition, relationship with the Nazi state, and involvement in war crimes and occupation.

Historia
Drawing on her 30 years' experience practicing pediatric and adolescent medicine, teen health expert Dr. Meg Meeker explains why an active father figure is maybe the single most important factor in a young woman's development. In this invaluable guide, Meeker shows how a father can be both counsel and protector for his daughter as she grows into a spiritually and mentally strong young woman.

this is so detailed - it’s a historian’s dream. the amount of work and attention to detail is mouth watering. not sure you can call yourself a fan of history or the world wars if you have not read this before.

Historia
This powerful, intensely dramatic book is the definitive account of the Haitian Revolution of 1794-1803. It is the story of the French colony of San Domingo, a place where the brutality of master toward slave was commonplace and ingeniously refined. And it is the story of a barely literate slave named Toussaint L'Ouverture, who led the black people of San Domingo in a successful struggle against successive invasions by overwhelming French, Spanish, and English forces and, in the process, helped form the first independent nation in the Caribbean.

one of the best stories
Revisado: 05-13-22
This is a story I only recently came across and wanting to learn more, this was the book that told it all. A remarkably well told story that explains in a level of detail any true historian could appreciate. for so many reasons this story should be required in every school to be taught. I would not be surprised to read this again this year. That was great and feels like an HBO mega series is just sitting here.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Dan Carlin does it again
Revisado: 01-30-20
Absolutely loved this and the style Dan Carlin uses to tell history. This is definitely something I will listen to again and recommended for any history fan. Within each story, there are micro stories woven throughout the paint a nice picture of the time period and surrounding environment. Dan tackles issues that address morality and perspective, and how they vary across history within different groups. Looking forward to the next one and cannot be more excited to see a new hardcore history was also released today. You are an inspiration Dan!
