Probably a great book -- I wanted to like it
Revisado: 12-20-24
I wondered if this was an AI narrator. They mispronounce many of the names of the books referenced from the Bible, and it's basically just a flat, lifeless reading. It makes it hard to get anything from the book.

I listened through the Plus Catalogue, but I was so affirmed, challenged, inspired, and convicted that I had to buy it. Much more to learn about a topic I thought I knew and understood fully. Oh, how the evil one wants us to snooze on this. Hello, I'm awake now! Thank you for eloquently and entertainingly sharing this message.

Our lives are defined by the stories we tell ourselves, but those stories aren't always true. Narratives that are based on outdated or irrelevant information can run (or ruin) our lives for years, even if those stories are wildly different from the objective reality that formed them.

With an obsessive fascination that is as contagious as it is compelling, author Jacky Colliss Harvey (herself a redhead) begins her exploration of red hair in prehistory and traces the redhead gene as it made its way out of Africa with the early human diaspora.

Someone actually knows
Revisado: 08-09-23
I’ve tried to explain what being a redhead means, and I usually hear, “Oh, I’ve always loved red hair!” Yet, I grew up hearing, “I’d rather be dead than red on the head.” Mind, that always came from men, and now I know why.
This book gives insight, affirmation, and understanding of the experiences, history, and wonder of being a redhead. Thank you!

Historia
Born to a pioneering family in Upstate New York in the late 1800s, Allene Tew was beautiful, impetuous, and frustrated by the confines of her small hometown. At eighteen, she met Tod Hostetter at a local dance, having no idea that the mercurial charmer she would impulsively wed was heir to one of the wealthiest families in America. But when he died twelve years later, Allene packed her bags for New York City. Never once did she look back.

Historia
Thomas Merton is one of the most famous American Catholic authors of the twentieth century. A prolific writer, Merton published 36 books and collections of poems over the span of 27 years, and has 38 posthumous publications that bear his name. Even more impressive than his voluminous output, however, is his deep spirituality that enraptured generations of people seeking intimate union with God.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-23-17
Would you try another book from Wyatt North and/or Robert Grothe?
The information is fine if limited, but the narrator makes listening a frustrating experience. He mispronounces some common words.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Disappointing. This was the information I was interested in, but the writer glossed over it. He shared much information about Merton's youth and rakish behaviour. I wanted to know more about his spiritual life and his time studying other religions.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.
Any additional comments?
This is a snapshot rather than a satisfying biographical piece.
