I liked the characters well enough, but I kept thinking these stories must have been written by a man. Yes, we were looking through the male gaze, but the character development and deeper motivations weren’t there.
The main motivator for each of the male main characters was ownership, not partnership, which screams patriarchy and misogyny. Their connections were all about visual and physical attraction instead of honest respect of an equal.
The fact that the men’s lives/habits don’t change with partnership was another red flag. In the 2nd book, the men go on vacation for a week and all of them (including the men in committed relationships) spend that week surrounded by and getting drunk with single available women on the hunt. I just kept thinking… These were obviously written by a man. 👀👀

I love this author, but I did not like the heroine of this story. She had absolutely no sense of self, evidenced by the verbal and physical abuse she accepted from her former partner, social circle and former coworkers. 100% of her validation as a human being came from outside of herself and that made this a very hard read. No woman should allow her identity to come from her relationship. 2/10, would not recommend.

I have loved every moment of Bridget’s evolution. Carwyn’s unwavering love provided fertile soil for her to bloom into so much…more. I read this in less than 24 hours. 10/10 would recommend

Patricia Briggs is one of my all-time favorite authors. Whenever a new book comes out, I pull up the reading list from her website and start over at #1. Every time I listen, I learn something new about the characters. ❤️ This time I also learned about more about Native American trickster gods and their folklore. Now I have have to google Grandmother Spider! I love the addition of the story from other viewpoints as well. I especially love the way Adam loves Mercy. ❤️❤️❤️
I cannot wait for the Gary andHoney’s story. I hope they get their own book series. I also hope Jesse gets her own book series. I think she Tad could have some real adventures.
10/10. Would recommend.

I really liked both characters, I especially liked that both recognized they needed to find peace and balance on their own before they could truly show up for each other and how that self awareness created space to grow. Great read!

This series was very frustrating to read. I liked the characters, but I feel like the author chose their profession because it was convenient without truly considering what it means to have all your main characters be seasoned lawyers.
Lawyers are trained to think of every possible outcome 8 steps ahead. Lawyers are trained to be skeptical about everything and research, research, research. By the time you graduate from law school, these traits are fundamental to your very being. The skepticism and master chess player thinking bleeds into every facet of your life. And yet this is not evident in any of her main characters...
Jane consistently speaks and acts in high emotion w/o thinking through ANYTHING. Did she have the same classes I did? Jane consistently enters into unsafe spaces and conversations as if nothing bad could possibly happen to her. But if she had truly been a prosecutor for 5 years, she would have seen enough to know better. She would be more cautious and more conscientious with her words.
But lawyer aside, am I really supposed to believe that Jane would have a private confrontational conversation with her husband in front of their enemy? Is she really that dumb? Am I really supposed to believe that her entire security detail left her alone to go get the car and she just randomly desires to walk towards the subway by herself?
The author made a point of describing the constant cloud of fear that follows her as long as Carson is roaming free. Why would any rational adult do that? Much less a former state prosecutor who’d already been kidnapped, drugged, beaten and had her unborn fetus aborted? I’m almost finished, but I would not read again.

I was hesitant to read the Carwyn/Brigid storyline because it so fundamentally changed who Carwyn was. But I find myself absolutely loving the evolution of Carwyn and the complexity of their relationship. Brigid has definitely grown on me and I love the way he loves her, no judgement, no trying to change her, just acceptance of all that she is and an unrelenting torrent of love and worth-ship. Because she is so worthy of that kind of devotion. The complexity of the stories has also been a surprise. 10/10, would recommend.

First and foremost, I love that we had an African [American] character! I love that her mate also embraced the culture of the Continent. I love that they touched on the rich history of Ethiopia: its ancient churches and its lush landscape. I especially love that Saba, the mother of all looks like me. ❤️❤️❤️ I love that her character is so complex: kind, stern, wise, emotional, grounded, loving, yet terrible in judgement. This is probably my favorite book in the series so far. Thank you, Elizabeth!!!!

I’ve reread this series at least 8 times… B & Gio are some of my favorite characters in their world (#teamBenzin 😍). I love all the big personalities, especially Carwin and how they don’t compete with each other, but compliment the storyline. I love B’s strength of character; she knows who she is and what her worth is and that’s priceless. 10/10, would recommend.

I had never read a spy novel before Terminal List, but I am officially hooked. The author presents the story in such a way that makes you ask questions about the current state of our eroding democracy. I think the best kind of books are the ones that keep you entertained and leave you introspective. 10/10, would recommend.
