Historia
Elaine Sciolino, the former Paris bureau chief of The New York Times, invites us on a tour of her favorite Parisian street, offering an homage to street life and the pleasures of Parisian living. While many cities suffer from the leveling effects of globalization, the rue des Martyrs maintains its distinct allure. On this street, the patron saint of France was beheaded and the Jesuits took their first vows.

Not as Interesting as it Should Have Been
Revisado: 06-28-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not really. This is after all a story of a street in Paris - which should hold a wealth of STORY - but alas - it may be due in part that its author is also its narrator - it's just not well conveyed or delivered.
If you’ve listened to books by Elaine Sciolino before, how does this one compare?
I have not listened to Ms. Sciolino prior to this book.
Would you be willing to try another one of Elaine Sciolino’s performances?
Doubtful.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Perhaps.
Any additional comments?
Shame really - Paris is filled with wonders!

Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

One of the WORST Ever!
Revisado: 06-21-16
Would you try another book from Hanya Yanagihara and/or Oliver Wyman?
Probably not
What was most disappointing about Hanya Yanagihara’s story?
Aside from being self-indulgent? It was just one horrific, depressing, without hope, torturous, mean, scenario after another - that seemed to go on without end.
Which scene was your favorite?
After hanging in there - which was beyond difficult to do - I mean I restarted this book so many times that I lost count - I wanted to truly understand why people were so UP about this - so finally I'm in it - this tragedy - and it just drones on-n-on - ad nauseam painfully so.
What character would you cut from A Little Life?
All of them!
Any additional comments?
I cannot add one positive note at all - other than eventually it does come to a close - for which I was extremely grateful for!
