This story starts with the creator of the Hellp desk and her journey to healing and finding her dreams in the most unlikely place. if your familiar with Hells Bells on the tube of You and the clock app, this is the origin story, the foundation. I laughed, I cried, I sobbbed, and fanned myself. the narrators are perfection.
The subject of war is the biggest trigger, and was handled with sensitivity and empathy and a very deep caring for veterans of horror.
There is a section on religious trauma, and I found it ... an enlightening viewing point. The principle characters are all warriors at heart, fighting for love, for health, for liberty and choices.
I am eagerly awaiting book too.

all of it, s campy, fun, smart mouthed, good over evil amongst the undead, no pesky humans against vamps, and most of all, Vampires with personal accountability!!! I said what I said!!!!

And a damn cliffhanger. the story is intricate, fun and well done. but that cliffhanger almost made me throw my phone.

I found profound relief in this book

For transparencies sake, I am a White woman. I have, over the years moved my way towards minimalism with great care.
I have avoided the wholee clean lines neutral colors thing, it makes me it.

I am an artist, and one who needs color and a degree of visual color when working.

The Red cover of this book excited me, I have friends who are black, who have amazing curated though not minimalist lives.

Their lives are beautiful and I want that beauty.

For me, what I learned from Christine Platt was that I can have limits and a curated life by choosing to limit unconscious spending and that My life can and, for me, should be filled with color.

as an aside I learned so much about economics related to the American black community and culture I had no understanding of,including fast fashion and Marketing that is predatory to the communities of color.

i had zero hope for this story

Do not eat while listening.

between the jump scares and Michele Mills ability to accurately describe the decay process of unenbalmed bodies, (which show up in all the enexpected places) eating is dangerous while listening.
pro's:
ott heros
heroine willing to moved beyond herself imposed boundaries.
a seriously creepy disease, (this was pre covid by 4 years, she did creepy epidemiology without the cdc's help)
a disturbingly accurate portrayl of disaster survivors in a world of no law and a collapsing grid.

cons, its about 50 percent through the book before you realize the repeated phrases such as the end, before, etc, which seem overused are accurate portrayals of how disaster survivors process information in the aftermath of figuring out a new reality. that is their touchpiint.

its the process of moving past survival and into living.

i wanted to hate rhis book, and I will NEVER listen to it again, its too close to what could have happened with Covid. But. i will read book 2 if she ever gets back to it, .

this is what Kit Rocha's world must have looked like at the beginning, before it settled into the new normal.

i had low expectations

and was pleasantly surprised, the narration was good and the authors stories were well written and one of them, Dream weaver is even haunting. It is rare that I can't stop my book but I burned yhrough these 4 stories straight through.

i wanted to love this so hard.

I couldn't. I suspect the story may be excelkent but all the city noises and useless music and distracting background noises took away from the story not added to it.
I will go see if there is a print version, I really am interested in the story. it is rare I am this bummed out over an Audible recording. deep sigh.
