Historia
On the morning after the 2016 presidential election, Thomas Ricks awoke with a few questions on his mind: What kind of nation did we now have? Is it what was designed or intended by the nation's founders? Trying to get as close to the source as he could, Ricks decided to go back and read the philosophy and literature that shaped the founders' thinking, and the letters they wrote to each other debating these crucial works—among them the Iliad, Plutarch's Lives, and the works of Xenophon, Epicurus, Aristotle, Cato, and Cicero.

Excellent until the author injects his personal principals
Revisado: 01-12-25
A mostly excellent book until the author injects his personal principals and believes. The sections on the founders principals is well researched and supported with facts.
The author's personal principals and beliefs distract from what would otherwise be an excellent piece of work. Sadly, the author loses all crediblity when he esposes being tolerant of believes of those we disagree with while, at the same time, being intolerant of a political personality he disagrees with.
It is not the author, the above mentioned political personality or myself who decides the direction of the future of this country, but the super majority of the American public whether any of us agree with that direction or not. That is the bedrock of the principals of our founding fathers that this country and goverment were built on.

Historia
As a young man, Ringo became embroiled in the blood feud turbulence of post-Reconstruction Texas. The Mason County "Hoo Doo" War in Texas began as a war over range rights, but it swiftly deteriorated into blood vengeance and spiraled out of control as the body count rose. In this charnel house, Ringo gained a reputation as a dangerous gunfighter and man killer. The reputation he earned in Texas, further inflated by his willingness to shoot it out with Victorio's raiders during a deadly confrontation in New Mexico, preceded him to Tombstone in territorial Arizona.

I was hoping for more
Revisado: 12-31-24
The problem with reading anything about the characters from the Earp/Clanton (Cowboy) fued is most are either written by Earp suppoters or the cowboy supporters. It is hard to find anything that is neutral and objectively written. I was hoping this would be one of those, but it is not.
The author seems to be a good researcher and his information is well written. However, he is no investigator. He let's his bias form his opinion and does not examine his evidence from a neutral perspective. The author is very subjective in his opinions.
However, there is good information. When read with other subjective books to either the Earp side or the Clanton/Cowboy side, it can help guide one to truth which lies somewhere in the middle.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-21-20
This has the worst English grammar usage I've ever encountered! A lot of it is just gibberish! It sounds like someone used a translator app to translate it from another language. Since I'm trying to learn Spanish, I do not feel I can trust the phrases in this book. If the English is used incorrectly, how do I know the Spanish is?
