Historia
It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

Revisado: 05-07-25
Generally, I try to give higher ratings because I believe it takes courage to present your work to scrutiny. Unfortunately, I found this book to be disappointing, the story line was weak, and the character development felt like an afterthought. I couldn't recommend this to anyone.

Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about—and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in for at least three years. Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth—and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light.

Interesting concept, but it ends without resolution.
Revisado: 07-21-24
Well, good character development, interesting story concept. But I find “trilogies,” like this one, that simple stop without resolution are utterly infuriating! I feel like the author just wasted my time and money. A “Cliffhanger” ending, when I paid full price for a book, is a ripoff, IMHO. And, since the next two “books” aren’t published yet, it is even more of a ripoff. Not happy.

A little cheesy for my tastes

I think this might’ve been better off as a book to read vs to listen to. It, to me, felt more like a YA novel.

When Fiona Edwards first sees the lanky backpacker striding up the lane toward her award-winning farmhouse bed-and-breakfast in the remote mountains of North Wales, she's puzzled. She's used to unexpected strangers, but few arrive on foot. The man to whom she opens her door is middle-aged, unshaven, sweat-soaked…and arrestingly handsome. This was a really weak book all around.
It’s hard to list all the things wrong with the story, there are just too many. This supposedly happens over just a couple days, from the hero getting shot in the head to the big reveal, yet the we have him
sprinting all over the place, taking all sorts of transportation, conveniently remembering vital pieces of data...
It’s plain ridiculous, and tedious.

Juvenile at best...

The performance was good, considering what they had to work with.
Otherwise, the story read like it was written by a high school virgin.
Should be in the “YA” section, and I’d bet even they would be underwhelmed...

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

Cliches, stereotypes, and weak characters...
Revisado: 04-10-19
Never care for novels written with such political slant, such as this. The author pushes a (very left leaning)political agenda and that is a major turnoff.
Clearly the author spend little to no time doing actual research because the war scenarios were childish and unrealistic, on top of having a leftist, anti-government theme. Obviously hasn’t a clue as to the combat-zone contractor world, and even less of the relationships military has with contractors.
I only finished this story because I am stubborn, if I start a book, I finish it. Wish there were less-than-one-Star rating. Wish I could get a refund...

Annoying to anyone in the know
Revisado: 02-09-19
Poorly researched, got so many things wrong it was distracting.
Couldn’t even get the mentality right for the type of military and agency people he was attempting to write about — I.e., not all Army people are infantry “grunts,” even within the Infantry. And no, when Army types meet others out and about, they don’t identify themselves by rank and three echelons of where they’re assigned. Intel Agency people don’t talk like robots reading a field manual — even the genius mathematicians could blend in with any group you’d see at a sporting event.
Writer gave Snowden too much credit and also gives the impression he believes the media spin that Snowden was some sort of a good guy exposing abuses when he was a traitor, liar, narcissist, and a jerk.
Too much “conspiracy theory “ drivel, big turn-off.
I would have ditched the book except I have a personal rule that any book started must be finished. This one was such a challenge to finish, I might have to change that policy.
Sorry I wasted a credit to buy this story, wish I could get the time I wasted back.

Not impressed.
Revisado: 02-09-18
I wanted to like this book. Still, knowing what I know of the intelligence world, I just don’t believe the lead character would have taken things as far as they went in the story. Too many things to dispute in this story, but after all the times her husband lied to her came to the surface, she still played along? A real woman would have blown a gasket — good looking or not, he’d lied to her about so many things! If there really are agents that gullible and weak in our 3-letter agencies, we have no hope... AND, all the surprise double agents at the end?? Really??
