Boring
Revisado: 12-30-24
Book was very boring. It’s a weird, hard to follow teenage light live story with no character development or substance to the story.

Historia
The discovery of a strange and superior warship sends Dion, youngest son of the king of Xanthos, and Chloe, a Phalesian princess, on a journey across the sea, where they are confronted by a kingdom far more powerful than they could ever have imagined. But they also find a place in turmoil, for the ruthless sun king, Solon, is dying. In order to gain entrance to heaven, Solon is building a tomb - a pyramid clad in gold - and has scoured his own empire for gold until there's no more to be found.

Historia
At Annie Laurance's Death on Demand bookstore on Broward's Rock Island, South Carolina, murder suddenly isn't confined to the well-stocked shelves. Author Elliot Morgan's abrupt demise during a weekly gathering of famous mystery writers called the Sunday Night Regulars is proof positive that a bloody sword is sometimes mightier than a brilliant pen. With Annie in the unenviable position of primary police suspect, the pretty young mystery maven and her wealthy paramour, Max Darling, embark on an investigation into a classic locked-room mystery with high stakes.

Blah
Revisado: 10-06-19
Highly predictable and had way too many references to other mystery books. It is really annoying to me when books talk about how real life mysteries aren't like they are in books and then make them exactly like a book. It is also very annoying to me when they compare the mystery they are solving to other mystery books. This book as both those things and the killer is horribly obvious. The actual writing is fine but the plot is blah.

Historia
In her first novel since 2002, Nebula and Hugo award-winning author Connie Willis returns with a stunning, enormously entertaining novel of time travel, war, and the deeds - great and small - of ordinary people who shape history. In the hands of this acclaimed storyteller, the past and future collideand the result is at once intriguing, elusive, and frightening.

Too Much of a Bad Thing
Revisado: 02-28-19
This entire book (though I'm not 100% sure about this because I didn't finish it) is a book where everything that could go wrong does go wrong the entire book. It's horribly frustrating and I simply couldn't keep reading it because it was an overkill on "bad luck." I was extremely disappointed in this book because I really liked the first book in the series but this book is nothing like the first book.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

Weird and a bit boring
Revisado: 02-28-19
This book was nothing like the first book in the series. It was just weird to me. Nothing really happened and most of the book was comprised of characters whining about how their time traveling expeditions weren't going as planned or there were too many travels to be planned or some such thing. I grew weary of it and couldn't finish the book. I was very disappointed because the first book in the series had a great story but this one didn't.

Historia
Emma Bannon, forensic sorceress in the service of the Empire, has a mission: to protect Archibald Clare, a failed, unregistered mentath. His skills of deduction are legendary, and her own sorcery is not inconsiderable. It doesn't help much that they barely tolerate each other, or that Bannon's Shield, Mikal, might just be a traitor himself. Or that the conspiracy killing registered mentaths and sorcerers alike will just as likely kill them as seduce them into treachery toward their Queen.

Hard to follow or take an interest
Revisado: 02-28-19
This book was hard to follow and I simply couldn't get interested in it. It's an odd magic story that doesn't explain the odd magic and is simply boring. It's almost like the author tried too hard to come up with a unique magic story and managed to do so but it simply wasn't engaging to me.

With only the flimsiest excuse as his defense, he is found guilty of a drunken crime of passion and imprisoned in a mental institution.

Can't stand listening to court cases
Revisado: 02-28-19
I couldn't get more than an hour into the book before I simply couldn't listen to it anymore. It pretty much starts out with how the justice system works with a court case and I am a hopeless idealist so I cannot tolerate it when the justice system is warped the way it is so I simply could not listen to this book.

Too predictable
Revisado: 01-13-19
Story is too predictable and narration isn't all that great. The main character is a writer of detective novels and she refers back to her novels as if they were real life and she can't figure out her own fictional story which doesn't make sense to me since she's the one writing them. . . It's also one of those stories that announces what she's thinking and that she's investigating instead of just investigating. A bit annoying.
