Not just about elephants

This was a very moving book, with so many important messages. It’s about the incredible intelligence, communication abilities, emotions and loyalty of the elephants. It’s about the rhinos- who knew they were so sweet and affectionate - and the horrible brutality they are subjected to by poachers. Its about the cruel and criminal business of poaching rhinos, because of their extremely high value due to the myth of their medicinal value. Do the people who desire these medicines have any idea that they are causing this brutality to such sweet and sensitive animals?

But most of all, for me, this book is about courage and facing your fears. It’s about a French woman who lost her life partner and became the sole owner of this challenging reservation in South Africa. Everyone thought she would leave and go back to France. Would the bush men who the reservation depended on accept a woman as the boss? Could she find the money to keep the reserve in operation? Could she take on her dream project of opening a wildlife nursery on the reserve? And could she overcome her fear of the wild elephants. She meet all of these challenges despite her fears, with so many great stories and great life lessons to pass on to all of us. I came away with renewed inspiration.

Harry has a lot of soul. He showed us the toll Jan 6th took on the officers, up close and personal. He knows how to speak from his heart in a way that few others can.

The True Stories

After reading so many other accounts of the Titanic, and the story as it was told in the movies, it was quite revealing to hear the actual accounts from those who were actually on board.

So moving

Her story is so incredible. I can’t help see the parallels between her father and Mark Meadows. Both were cruel, self absorbed men. And how alone and scared this young woman was. Then it’s so wonderful to see how her attorneys Jodi and Bill were so warm, caring and protective of her. And Liz is absolutely amazing, so inspirational, so caring and so helpful, and such a great role model. I loved the way the book ended when she met Alex Butterfield. That had me totally in tears! What an incredible life story from such a young woman, and it’s all true!

Excellent book

This book is both factual and moving. I’m guessing that James Cameron used some of the information in this book for his movie. For example, Jack, the 17 year old passenger. This book gives a detailed story of the last hours on the boat, the experiences in the lifeboats and on the Carpathia. It also explains why the California did not come to the rescue.

Another great Bosch novel

With audio version had a little trouble following all the cases, but I guess that’s how it really plays out. Liked the narration, seemed very realistic. Great Bosch book.

Great Book!

This was a great read, I couldn’t put it down. Such a nice escape from our current society! I liked the style of using letters and newspaper articles to help tell the story. I was very fascinated by the historical relationships described in the end, and wished I had read that chapter before reading the book, although some of the characters like Queen Victoria were real. The book provides great insight into Victorian Era society.

Worth Reading

As a news junkie and supporter of Biden, I wondered if I would learn anything new from this book, but I did. A lot of good information about behind the scenes negotiations. Especially about the pullout from Afghanistan which was so horrific, i still think he screwed the Pooch on that one but was working with bad intel. But he’s made up for it with Ukraine.

One of his best. I hope he writes more books with Bosch and Ballard as a team.
The Audio production was well done.
