Historia
Mysterious notes are showing up in Fiona’s kindergarten classroom, claiming a suicide from 2005 was actually a homicide. Detective Landry maintains the messages are too vague, possess no integrity, and do not warrant a review of the old case. Fiona’s not convinced. Fast paced witty mystery
Revisado: 06-28-21
When notes begin showing up in Fiona's Kindergarten classroom about a decades old suspicious death, and no one, including her mother, wants to even discuss it, Fiona's curiosity is piqued.
When more notes arrive, some threatening her to mind her own business, Fiona and her (secret) husband, Detective Nathan Landry, investigate mainly to keep Fiona safe.
This book is witty, with many outright funny moments. Assisted by her ghostly grandmother, who always has Fiona's back, will they find out the truth about a teacher's death?
Speaking of her grandmother, the readers, as well as the newly weds, are discovering Grandma has a few more tricks than preciously disclosed.
I believe readers will enjoy this series best if read in order, but each book is satisfying on its own.
I appreciate watching the characters develop and relationships unfold and mature.
The narrator of the audiobook series is fantastic and adds something special to each character.

Set sail for fun and danger
Revisado: 06-14-21
School teacher Fiona Quinn and her hesitant beau Detective Nathan Landry, are setting off on a cruise!
Fiona is excited about taking her favorite man on a Caribbean escape, accompanied by good friends. Straight laced, rule following Librarian Julia surprises all by how willing she is to go with the flow away from work.
Nathan is not hesitant about his love for Fiona, but his fear of seasickness (and maybe a few wardrobe choices) has him definitely feeling adrift about this dream vacation.
Before they are even on the boat (er, it's a SHIP! and it's a SHE) there are hints that all may not be smooth sailing. The Captain is a remarkable young woman who has the respect and experience to handle most situations. Will she be prepared for potential sabotage or even murder?
From decades old grudges and rivalries, seniors choosing on-board living over assisted care facilities, and the inevitable romance of the seas...potential for turbulence swells.
However, back home...
If you are familiar with this series you already know about the living circumstances at Fiona's house.
Instead of asking her mother to babysit her darling dog, Harriette, Fiona's brother, Chad, should be of a responsible age. This turns out perhaps not to be as true as desired. It does make for some humorous misadventures. Harriette also gets a mini vacation.
I always enjoy my visits with Fiona and the quirky people who fill her world.
Even when shadows cross her path there is the opportunity for a silver lining.
The characters are well developed, even the ones you distrust or want to dislike.
The narration of the audiobook version was outstanding. A delight to listen.

Twists, Turns, Surprises
Revisado: 06-05-21
I love a good second chance romance. I listened to the audiobook version during a commute through construction. I almost wished my trip was longer!
I, as well as others in my car, enjoyed the entire book. The author did a fantastic job as narrator.
When we felt things were going to be wrapped up we were hit with another twist to the story!
Bailey is running a family ice cream shop in Alaska. Who doesn't root for an underdog like that?
When her lease is not going to be renewed, what could be worse?
The new tenant displacing her is the one man she could never forget.
Brahms has all the characteristics of someone who has never had to worry about paying bills.
Yes, he works but his job doesn't seem overly stressful. He seems to enjoy life.
What we all must remember is that we never truly know what someone else is going through.
Misunderstanding and bad timing keep butting up between these two wonderful people.
Can adversity ever result in forward movement?
A fun and romantic adventure.

Historia
In 1945, Will Mills and his fellow soldiers in the 10th Mountain Division scaled Italy’s treacherous Riva Ridge in the frigid night to break through the nearly impenetrable German line of defense. Severely wounded, Will was rescued by Italian partisans, and a beautiful girl tended his injuries until he had the strength to rejoin the US troops.

Beautifully descriptive, informational, Emotional
Revisado: 03-21-21
This is a grand story about love and honor. It speaks to consequences and responsibilities.
Also about how the same events can be seen differently by various people through their experiences.
The book opens amidst detailed battle scenes in Italy. Graphic and intense, we wonder if and how anyone could survive.
Then we jump three quarters of a century later, where one man who did survive and came home to live a full live, is now saying goodbye to his wife for the final time. Out of respect, his much younger apartment neighbor goes to the funeral.
Sophie's own life is suffering losses in the moment. Her dog is old and facing life ending challenges, her love life has stalemated, and her job become impossible.
So when elderly Will comes up with the implausible idea of running off to Italy to find a woman he loved during the great war, somehow Sophie gets caught up in it and is convinced she must go along.
Their time in Italy is very much like a travelogue, full of beautiful scenery, history and food.
They meet interesting people, but can they find the woman they are seeking? Is she even still alive?
Where does one begin to search?
It all seems futile and Will's age and health are working against them.
Will is also not giving up all of his secrets and information about his history, making their search more difficult.
As they travel Sophie comes to better understand her neighbor and learns insights about her own life.
The ending was quite a surprise to me. It was very emotional, and both sad and positive.
The writing is beautifully descriptive. It made me want to learn more about the history of my own home area and see the world around me with fresh eyes. Food appreciating readers will love this book.
The secondary characters are equally as interesting as our main protagonists.
A satisfying yet surprising book overall.
The narration was superb. The narrator did a marvelous job with accents and differentiating voices.

Could the Easter Bunny be involved with Murder?
Revisado: 09-17-20
Easter is near and in Ashton Falls, that is good reason to celebrate. It also seems to be a time when rabbits multiply and need new homes. Since Zoe runs an animal rescue, she is discovering bunnies in all areas of her life.
I enjoyed getting to know Zoe Donovan and her circle of friends. Some have messy relationship pasts and unclear future paths, but with good friends to support you, the bumps in the road are survivable. Even Zoe's parents are involved in the complications.
The victim Zoe stumbles upon is not a well liked business person. Figuring out motive and opportunity is tricky.
The story is well written, a nice combination of suspense, humor, mystery to solve, and characters with singular traits. Just as we are getting to know them, they are also finding their balance as coworkers.
Family and friendship are strong themes.
We also discover that being of financial wealth has both pros and cons.

Then another day, and another visit. Presented in a clear and organized manner.
Revisado: 03-11-20
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to both read the book and listen to the audio book verson of it. Each has its advantages and better options. While having the information available to me as I performed other tasks, such as driving or gardening, cooking, etc. allowed my subconscious mind to work on the content as well as my creative ideas. Being able to consume the book content and information via reading it gave me more time for it to be absorbed and understood in different parts of my brain/mind and learning process. I found the narrator's voice easy to listen to, even soothing. However, my co-driver made me turn it off as he did not appreciate the tonality, found it was either irritating or it was putting him to sleep. So, different approaches appeal to different types.
Besides step 1 to whatever, or an A to Z approach, this book explains the act of idea creation, how to prepare your mind to be a fertile field into which ideas may be planted with best chance of successful fertilization. You do not need to have all the answers, especially How-To, at the beginning. It starts with identifying a problem to be solved, and cautions us that not all problems are meant to spend time on. Identify those with value, specifically financial or humanitarian value, to spend you time and effort on. One that will stick with me is how does one properly cook a camel, or rather, vent a camel capable cooking oven.
Michael shares with us how to prepare the mind, identify a problem to solve, and go about finding resources to solve that problem. He also alerts us to the need to keep proper records to prove the solutions we discover are our own and to protect them in order to prosper. We are introduced to inventors and other resources are provided. I found the entire book very interesting.
The format is not intimidating. It is presented in a clear and organized manner. I did find myself talking to myself in more positive terms while reading and listening to the book.

Historia
At the height of the recent recession, I was 55-years-old, laid off from my job, and running short on hope. To cover our bills, my husband took on a second full time job while I found a roommate to rent out our spare bedroom. Every day our faith was tested as our prayers went unanswered. I was convinced that if I kept believing and held strong in my faith, that eventually God would answer our prayers. Little did I realize there would be plenty of twists and turns along the way.
