I listened to this book three (3) times before I wrote a review. I am still amazed at how much I enjoyed this book. I've never been a gamer, which is the central story line. I do like books that grab me and pull me along at a brisk pace, well fleshed out, really likable characters, with gritty dialogue that applies to the storyline. Bloody violence is not gratuitous but necessary and the entire book is written with care and more than a pinch of humor.

I generally listen to books written more tongue in cheek. While looking for a new series, I came across this book. Bought it. Started it. Too serious. I started it a week later. Must have been my frame of mind the first time, because the book blew me away. The character development, the intricate plot, the attention to detail, all came together and I found myself listening to this book more each day. The writer left subtle clues throughout I barely had it before the big reveal. The narrator is amazing as well. His voice added to the haunting atmosphere. The dialog was vocalized exceptionally well. Try this book. Beware, there is some gore. Only enough to remind you that "Monster" is in the title.
