Historia
Bill Blair finds the land by accident - three wooded acres in a rustic community south of San Francisco. The year is 1954, long before anyone will call this area Silicon Valley. Struck by a vision of the family he has yet to create, Bill buys the property on a whim. In Penny Greenway he finds a suitable wife, a woman whose yearning attitude toward life seems compelling and answerable, and they marry and have four children. Yet Penny is a mercurial housewife at a time when women chafed at the conventions imposed on them.

Just a well written book
Revisado: 09-18-22
This was the simplest of stories. But such well-developed characters. Nice to read/listen for the pleasure of the novel. Well-developed characters and good job by the narrator.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Super Good for what it is!!
Revisado: 11-12-19
Wow ! Imagine my surprise at downloading the monthly FREE book and getting a really well made “podcast type” book of true crime. It was a really interesting “documentary” that kept me engaged and looking for more with each chapter I listened to. The production was well done and the material unique and fresh. Not sure if it’s a first publication for this author but I’ll definitely look for more!

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. Top Audible Book of all time ? Possibly yes!
Revisado: 11-08-19
Now this is how an audible experience is supposed to be. Superb writing with unparalleled audio by Tom Hanks. I would have loved reading this book but am so glad that I listened instead. There are just so many GREAT expressions and Mr Hanks voice inflections highlights each of these giving them even more meaning. Truly music to the ears and words on the heart. I loved this entire performance from start to finish. The characters were so well-developed and I was sad when it ended. I WANT MORE !! Or at least more Audible experiences like this one. Thank you Ms Patchett and Mr Hanks for this brilliant partnership.

Was Jason the monster who bludgeoned his beautiful wife to death, leaving his toddler alone for hours to walk through her blood? If so - would he get away with it? Murder on Birchleaf Drive documents the gripping tale of a family’s marathon quest for justice, confounding crime scene evidence, the persistence of law enforcement officers, and riveting courtroom combat.

Great (but sad) book. Annoying narrator
Revisado: 10-26-19
The narrators methodical monotone delivery almost ruined the whole audio book. But I hung in because this story was just so gripping. I’m not sure the author laid it out as another better crime writer would have but it was compelling. Probably the most cringe worthy audio was his pronunciation of the sorority “Alpha Delta Pi” that sonehow he kept saying “pee” ?? Who gets that from Pi (pie).
The worst however was his narration of closing articles in which he felt compelled to give Sound/accent effects to the quotes but change back to the monotone voice for the non quoted parts. For example, “accent accent accent” then “he said” (in monotone). This was a distraction as it was a conversation switching with every sentence from BAD Southern accent to monotone to accent to monotone. !! Ugh.
I finally turned it off and downloaded Written book and read the ending.
You will understand this when you download the book although it’s probably best read instead of audible.

Historia
One beautiful September day, three men convene on Martha's Vineyard, friends ever since meeting in college circa the 60s. They couldn't have been more different then, or even today - Lincoln's a commercial real estate broker, Teddy a tiny-press publisher, and Mickey a musician beyond his rockin' age. But each man holds his own secrets, in addition to the monumental mystery that none of them has ever stopped puzzling over since a Memorial Day weekend right here on the Vineyard in 1971: the disappearance of the woman each of them loved - Jacy Calloway.

Too preachy ??
Revisado: 08-30-19
Just having finished might not be the best time to review this book as I can find myself rethinking many of the topics this book contained. Sometimes I REALLY liked the way Russo worded various passages. Other times I thought “only a guy could like this book” or “I can totally see dumb guys doing this”. So I’m not sure. I think I liked it, but I did feel that some of the character developments went on for too long. However I very much liked how this story ended,in fact it was my favorite part of the book. So for now my numbers stand bit as time goes on, I reserve the right to change them.

Developed and the plot gained at a good speed before it was all explained. It was not easily guessed until the last chapter or two. I t was a quick listen and kept me entertained appropriately for a basic type book

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

This was a really great book that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to. It would not have been the same in print because of the great audio clips that carried the story. I felt like I was listening to further explanation of the Apollo 11 movie. Can’t beat the price!!

Historia
Dallas antiques dealer Mary Jean Pearle had a bitter history with her ex-husband, John David Battaglia, a former Marine and successful accountant. But even after the abuse she endured from him, she never thought he would go after their daughters, Faith and Liberty. That is, until she listened helplessly over the phone as Faith made a heartrending plea for her life - which was followed by gunshots. In this updated account of Battaglia's unthinkable crime, Irene Pence recounts an unforgettable saga of violence, betrayal, and a mother's worst nightmare.
