To Crown a Monarch!
Revisado: 08-25-19
Richard T. Ryan returns with Holmes and Watson chasing an elusive prey seeking their freedom. A true continuation of the great detective and his work. This telling not only has Holmes using his expert skills of disguise, but he teaches Watson how it's done. A fantastic story and adventure in the green fields of Ireland.
Nigel Peever returns and brings back to life the writings of Mr. Ryan with a skill that was so effective it almost goes unnoticed. He wraps you in the sounds of the mystery so effectively that you almost forget you aren't listening to Watson himself. A truly effective combination of writing by Mr. Ryan and performance by Mr. Peever.

Historia
When the papal apartments are burgled in 1901, Sherlock Holmes is summoned to Rome by Pope Leo XII. After learning from the pontiff that several priceless cameos that could prove compromising to the church, and perhaps determine the future of the newly unified Italy, have been stolen, Holmes is asked to recover them. In a parallel story, Michelangelo, the toast of Rome in 1501 after the unveiling of his Pieta, is commissioned by Pope Alexander VI, the last of the Borgia pontiffs, with creating the cameos that will bedevil Holmes and the papacy four centuries later.

The Game is afoot....again!
Revisado: 08-25-19
Sherlockians have found a new chronicler in Richard T. Ryan. Mr. Ryan captures the essence of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his writing and has successfully taken on the voice of everyone's favorite detective companion Dr. Watson. Recognized by the Baker St. Irregulars for his story telling abilities, Mr. Ryan brings a new era to the tales of Sherlock Holmes and they begin in Italy. This twisting adventure will keep you riveted and interested to the last moment. This is a fantastic start to what I hope will be a long journey with the famed detective and his esteemed companion.
Nigel Peever brings a real style to this work, and it screams Sherlock Holmes. At first I was a bit taken aback by the sound effects, but it grew on me as I delved deeper into the story. Mr. Peever's presentation of Holmes and Watson was just what any fan would expect and is a true testament to his vocal thespianism. He takes a very good story and captures its vitality and presentation with his performance.

A Good Beginning!
Revisado: 06-16-19
Aleron Kong's freshman outing in the The Land: Founding is a good beginning for a first book. It has it's rough patches, but all in all has a decent style, good plot, and well thought out world. The one place it falls short is in the Main Character. Kong would have you believe that his character is a trained doctor who exhibits teenage anxiety and juvenile mentality. This isn't so bad as to derail the story, but it makes for several cringe worthy moments in his tale. This first book is ambitious when it comes to it's plot, and only the test of time will prove if it is too ambitious. I believe as far as "in game" quests go, Kong has bitten off more than he can chew, in the amount of territory he is laying out for his Character right from the start. It's not so much that he started these quests, it's that he put a time limit on them, and frankly I think he will have trouble squeezing them all in without making them feel rushed.
Nick Podehl is a true vocal professional that brings this work to life. He takes a slightly better than average story and makes it good. He truly was a wise choice for this series.

To the forest on the shore of the Kingdom of the Isles, the orphan Pug came to study with the master magician Kulgan. But though his courage won him a place at court and the heart of a lovely princess, he was ill at ease with the normal ways of wizardry. Yet Pug's strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. The Beginning!
Revisado: 07-13-18
For those unfamiliar with Raymond Feist, this is his first book and the start of one of the most epic fantasy tales of all time. This series is ranked along side the Wheel of Time and The Belgariad. It is longer than both of those combined however, so it stretches across a vast world with multiple main characters and many epic stories before it is finished. His series of 31 books took just over 30 years to create, and has become one of the hallmarks of Classic Fantasy. His story telling is superb and his characters are remember-able. It is truly a privilege to finally have these available on Audible, and I would recommend any Classic Fantasy fans out there to give this series a listen, you will not be disappointed.
Nicholas Guy Smith does a great job with this literary masterpiece and was a very good selection to read this series. He did this classic justice with his performance.

Another Good Yarn!!
Revisado: 07-13-18
This is another good story that you will have a hard time putting down. If you read through the reviews you will see several complaints about how quickly this story is ended. If you have read the Society of the Sword (set in the same world, with different characters and different locations) then you know that Duncan Hamilton has a tendency to wrap up his stories quickly once he feels the main points that he was trying to tell have been told. The reason most people don't like this is because it usually means that the story has an unfinished feel. What they fail to grasp is that he is telling myths and legends of the world he has created, only from the stand point of their true stories (or in this case the "slightly embellished" retelling of one who was there). True stories very rarely have the endings or closer that so many of us seek in our entertainment, however I find it refreshing in Hamilton's writing. He does a fantastic job mixing the fantasy with the touch of reality he gives his stories. I am looking forward to his next epic hero's tale from this world.
The performance was fantastic and Simon Vance did a good job of individualizing each character and making them come alive. A very good job of vocal thespianism.

Another Fine Addition!
Revisado: 06-26-17
Eric Flint brings us another corner of his world known as the Ring of Fire. This time we go to India and witness the political and social upheaval that surrounded the 1630's during the construction of the Taj Mahal. My only complaint with this book was that several of the character's names were similar enough that I was a little confused as to which character was doing what for a few moments till that chapter was fleshed out a little more and I was able to connect the character to another part of the story. This only happened a few times, but it was frustrating all the same. Flint and Barber have added another fine piece to the story of the Ring of Fire.
As always George Guidall does a fantastic job bringing the Ring of Fire to life. Guidall is a fantastic vocal thespian that is a master of his craft.

Epic
Revisado: 06-26-17
There is not much I can add to what has been said already about this book and this series. When you are doing a review on a series as famous at The Wheel of Time, you just try not to sound too enthusiastic or too bland. Personally I really like this series but consider The Eye of the World a mistake. I only say that because you feel as if you are walking into a story in the middle of it as it starts. The publishing of New Spring solved that problem, but at the initial publication of The Eye of the World it caused some issues with me.That being said, in all other respects this book is fantastic. In the fantasy genre there are few authors that can weave a tale like Robert Jordan. His storytelling skill is only matched by the likes of Tolkien, Lewis, and Feist just to name a few that have so deeply influenced the genre like Jordan. Jordan's attempt to use the myths, legends, and philosophies in our history to shape the world in which his characters reside is done with a care and diligence that you don't find in many works published today. This is a fitting start to an epic tale, that will take you far afield of your normal lives, and give you a look into the imagination of a man truly inspired by his Muse.
Kate Reading and Michael Kramer do a fantastic job narrating this story. For anyone wondering Reading handles the chapters that are written from a female character's perspective and Kramer a man's. They bring this work to life in a manner that would make Robert Jordan proud, and present his work with a thespian flourish that makes the story grab the listener and pull them into the world of The Wheel of Time.

Back to the beginning....
Revisado: 06-25-17
The Genesis Fleet series takes us all the way back to the founding of the Alliance. The Alliance that played such a major part of Jack Campbell's other series. Just like many other authors in this genre, Campbell has decided that starting over at the beginning is a good way to continue his story. Campbell does a superb job getting us back to the beginning and giving us new characters to cheer on. His main characters are just different enough that you feel as if this is a new world he is taking you too, and just familiar enough that you buy into it easily. Campbell puts a story together that any fan of his other series would love, and those starting for the first time can enjoy just as well.
As always Christian Rummel does a superb job in this new Campbell book. His vocal thespianism (is that a word? who cares, it describes it accurately) is what brings the stories he reads to life. He creates the character in your mind's eye so completely, you could swear you've actually seen them and listened to them speak. This is storytelling at its finest.

Ok for a teen Sci-Fi
Revisado: 09-14-16
This is NOT an adult sci-fi book. The plot is ok, but overly simplistic. The main character is fleshed out very well, but all the other characters are under developed.
The narration is as simple as the book. Tisdale's vocal thespian chops don't seem to extend beyond making his characters sound old or young. You can only tell a tense situation by the author's written description since Tisdale seems to have only one emotion setting in this narration.
Overall the book was ok, but I will hesitate before purchasing another by either the author or narrator.

Eddie Cantrell, now married to the king of Denmark’s daughter, is sent by Admiral Simpson to the Caribbean to secure access to the most valuable commodity on that continent - not the gold and silver which the Spanish treasure, but the oil which up-time machines and industry need. The admiral has also provided Eddie’s small task force with the new steam-powered frigates that have just come out of the navy’s shipyards. Even with the frigates, a giant obstacle stands in his way.

Ahoy!!
Revisado: 01-27-15
Before I get started on this book, I first have to say I love this series. That being said, I don't think I've wanted to read another book in this series as much as I want to read the sequel to this one. I couldn't stop listening. I listened to this book in one sitting, and I didn't want it to end. The adventures of Eddie Cantrell are truly fascinating, and I love the imagery that Flint and Gannon put into this book. They have done to the Caribbean and the Spanish Main what Flint and his co-authors have done with Europe and the 30 years war. If you have enjoyed the other books in the Ring of Fire series, you are going to love this one.
George Guidall just continues to produce fantastic audiobooks. This book is done with the same excellence that all of his other narrations have had. This is a five star book all around.
