Great story, poor pronunciation
Revisado: 12-05-23
So loving the story, again - this is my second time reading, the first time listening. One of the reasons I actually wanted to listen instead of read it again is all the weird snippets of foreign languages. I am disappointed that the producers didn’t better guide the speaker to pronounce words correctly. Anamchara isn’t pronounced with a “ch” like “cheese.” The swords they use, shetes, aren’t “sheets,” obviously, it should be pronounced shet-tees…since it says in the book ten times they are descendants of machetes. “Celts” is pronounced with a hard K sound, not “selts.” I’m just a little disappointed that someone who is paid money to pronounce words doesn’t put more effort into making sure it’s done correctly. Or that the production team doesn’t do that.

Historia
It’s been eight years since the Change rendered technology inoperable across the globe. Rising from the ashes of the computer and industrial ages is a brave new world. Survivors have banded together in tribal communities, committed to rebuilding society. In Oregon’s Willamette Valley, former pilot Michael Havel’s Bearkillers are warriors of renown. Their closest ally, the mystical Clan Mackenzie, is led by Wiccan folksinger Juniper Mackenzie. Their leadership has saved countless lives. But not every leader has altruistic aspirations.

Great series, Sound effects too loud
Revisado: 10-23-23
I love this whole series and read it long ago. I am listening to it now because I wanted to get reacquainted with it. Though the graphic audio part is fun, often times the sound effects are too loud for me to be able to tell what the narrator is saying, and it is very annoying and distracting. Especially since there is so much fighting. But even the music played in the background is too loud for the spoken voices.

Historia
Raised to be a warrior, 17-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: train to fight and fight to survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield - her brother, fighting with the enemy - the brother she watched die five years ago. Eelyn loses her focus and is captured. Now, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered.

Lovely - with depth and nuance

Well built characters and relationships that develop as well. Captivating. Can’t wait to read more of her work.
