Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Too bad…
Revisado: 04-07-24
Interesting premise with the crime podcast which soon became the only thing I liked about the book. Started out kind of witty and offbeat then slid into all the apparently requisite abundance of profanity, sex and snark. Not a single character was likable apart from Grandma. The insertion of the victim Savvy’s voice urging murdering others was especially gross. Sorry, didn’t like this book.

Historia
In the summer after graduating from college, Suleika Jaouad was preparing, as they say in commencement speeches, to enter “the real world”. She had fallen in love and moved to Paris to pursue her dream of becoming a war correspondent. The real world she found, however, would take her into a very different kind of conflict zone. It started with an itch - first on her feet, then up her legs, like a thousand invisible mosquito bites. Then a trip to the doctor and, a few weeks shy of her 23rd birthday, a diagnosis: leukemia, with a 35 percent chance of survival.

Misleading Cover Photo
Revisado: 02-10-23
Obviously, the story of her disease and what she has and continues to go through is terrible and heartbreaking ~ a thing you wouldn’t wish on anyone. At first, I was riveted but the detailed description of symptoms and treatments was so repetitive… I more than got the point. My empathy began to erode with her lack of appreciation for Will’s generous sacrifice of his own goals and agenda to take care of her. It was truly heroic yet she whined and complained ad nauseum about him. A hefty chunk could have been edited from the middle of the book without compromising the story… it became wearying and I nearly quit. The last bit when she finally got on the road was interesting again, though and I wished had been the more detailed part. It’s actually where I assumed the emphasis would be due to the cover photo, hence part of my disappointment with the book. Gotta agree with a previous reviewer about the lack of pronunciation of “t” sounds when followed by a vowel (moun-un, cer-ain)… so annoying!

Historia
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago. Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer.

Chaotic
Revisado: 09-02-22
Too long, too many characters, too much jumping around in time made the book hard to follow… had to continually remind myself how each person related to the others. Also, authors, give the f-bomb a rest … adds nothing to your story and I am sick of hearing it used so casually and continually!

Profane Garbage
Revisado: 08-04-22
The premise of taking on the task of finishing a best selling series for another author had promise but, wow, what a disappointment this book is! I quit on it early as it was far and away the most vulgar, graphic and salacious book I’ve stumbled upon. Disgusting, really. Ugh… who needs it.

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Can’t finish
Revisado: 03-13-22
Just couldn’t stand the continual repetition of I said, he said, she said… drove me nuts! The male narrator’s voice was robotic, also. I can’t speak to the storyline as I didn’t finish. Glad it was free!

Historia
Indian American journalist Smita has returned to India to cover a story, but reluctantly: long ago she and her family left the country with no intention of ever coming back. As she follows the case of Meena—a Hindu woman attacked by members of her own village and her own family for marrying a Muslim man—Smita comes face to face with a society where tradition carries more weight than one’s own heart, and a story that threatens to unearth the painful secrets of Smita’s own past.

I love Thrity Umrigar’s novels of India, a country I don’t think I could ever visit due to the heat and throngs of people! Her books portray the sights and sounds so vividly and the narrator’s accent enhances the listening experience immeasurably … in fact I’d much rather listen to the books than read a hard copy. “Honor” is both fascinating and disturbing, ugly and beautiful, touching and repellant ~ highly recommended.

Historia
When Indian American journalist Smita returns to India to write the story of a young widow Meena and the murder of her husband, it’s Smita’s first time back since her family left when she was a child. Both Smita and Meena were raised in a culture where a woman exercising a basic human right - the right to love and marry whoever she chooses - is met with brutal punishment. While Meena’s fate hangs in the balance, Smita must reckon with the privilege that becoming an American has given her, as well as face the trauma that shaped her as a child and led to her family leaving.

Revisado: 01-03-22
Seemed too long to me which resulted in my attention wandering often... no real surprises or twists but plenty tragic events affecting Melody. Her relationship with her son was so cozily close as to be unrealistic - creepy even. The book wasn’t awful, just forgettable.
