Historia
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

worst narrator ever!
Revisado: 05-09-24
The narrator stinks! He ends every sentence with a weird emphasis trailing off the last word. So annoying! And it's just an affectation while he's narrating in third person because when he's voicing different characters he drops the affectation and actually does the different characters pretty well. But then he goes back to the annoying narration and just ruins the story.

It's become too repetitive
Revisado: 03-21-24
It started with the previous book in the series and now the pattern continues. A little occasional recap and review is fine, but this is just way too much. Especially when the stuff being repeated and hammered into the ground deals with Parno's feelings for the Dr and vice versa. We get it already, we got it a long time ago. Can we get back to the action please?
This is starting to feel like padding just to make the series longer. I like long books, but not when they're just repeating stuff ad nauseum.

Historia
Billy Todd has always been different. Most people called him odd, and those were the nice people. Though he was born with a learning disability, Billy's parents never allowed him to consider himself disabled. Raised to be self-sufficient, Billy might not be as smart as some, but he was a lot smarter than people realized.

TOO DURN SLOW!
Revisado: 02-21-24
Cheeses sliced this was slow! It did have some good action scenes but they were few and far between. And there were no real setbacks, almost everything went Billy Todd's way because he was supposed to be some kind of idiot savant who planned everything perfectly. Way too much social interaction among Todd's group of survivors instead of conflict with the other groups.

No character development
Revisado: 03-19-23
The main character never develops -- sure his STATS develop, but he doesn't learn any lessons, he never really faces any serious challenges, he develops relationships with no one, not even his pet ape "Tiny". He remains overly confident and snarky from beginning to end. And the story itself goes nowhere, just one fight after another without any real jeopardy for the main character, he breezes through all the fights. Save your money and your time. Its better spent elsewhere.

I'm not going to leave an actual review here. Others have said it well enough. I"m just going to say that Donut's song threw me for a loop. Wow. Where did that come from? Talk about "out of left field". What a beautiful surprise. And more in the after credits.

Historia
For Hudson, the virtual world of PrimeVerse isn't all bad. It's beautiful, much nicer than overpopulated Earth. It almost feels like a vacation except for the volatile wildlife, lack of any amenities, and—oh yeah—the inability to log out. Exploring the world, learning his class, and leveling skills is all fun and games until a powerful rogue player with a vendetta shows up to wipe out Hudson and his primitive tribe. Thrust into a conflict he didn't create, Hudson is forced into a cycle of respawning where he learns that even death can be used as a tool. So much for that vacation.

Ruined by a sappy love story
Revisado: 12-09-22
This could have been much better. Book One wasn't bad, It creates an interesting game world. Not nearly as detailed and consistent as the world of "Alpha Physics" which I've also been reading, but still interesting and fun. But then this Madison girl shows up and takes over the whole story. She ruins the main character who is such a sap and can't stop talking about how much she turns him on. But she's still mourning for her dead husband and is sending him mixed signals. Fine, we get it, but that storyline which I just summarized in two sentences, goes on and on and on until, to quote Mark Twain, you just wish they'd both drown in the same boat. Except in this world that wouldn't even end their stupid romance because they'd just respawn and go at it again. Madison is a whiny little b---- with an annoyingly "cute" voice (read by a male narrator which makes it even more annoying. Entire chapters of this book get subsumed by this romance crap that nobody wants to hear about. The adventures and the gaming plot just disappear into this mawkish romance YA crap.

Good story but . . .
Revisado: 10-13-22
Horrible halting narration. Odd pronunciation. Unnecessary pauses. Like he's reading it for the first time. Very distracting from the story, which isn't bad although full of red herrings and straw dog digressions.

Historia
In the apocalypse, the first weapon Adrian will have to upgrade is himself. The end of the world as we know it couldn’t come at a worse time for him. One minute, he’s an operations manager who’s overseeing a construction job in the wilderness. The next, an unknown energy force changes the very nature of life itself, from the smallest organism to the top of the food chain. The Earth’s surviving inhabitants, its environment, and the very laws of physics have all undergone fundamental transformations. Many of those changes aren’t pretty.

Starts slow but gets really good
Revisado: 10-27-21
When I began listening I didn't realize this was a "Lit RPG" novel. Something I read said it was "Hard Sci Fi" and it most certainly is NOT that. This was my first Lit RPG novel unless "Ready Player One" and "Ready Player Two" are in that category. Anyway the going was pretty slow in the beginning and I almost returned it. All the recited numerical stats as he levels up do not make for a good audiobook! I'd recommend keeping those to a minimum in future sequels. But what I like about the book is that it is very well written. The author has a good command of the English language and a good sense of plot (once the story gets going about 4 or 5 chapters in.) The narration is excellent. If the story is lacking in anything, its that there isn't enough human interaction and character development. When the hero's only motivation is journeying to far away Melbourne to rescue a wife and family that the reader has never met, that doesn't leave any room for romance along the way. A couple of minor characters do seem to be in a budding romance, but that's not enough. And there aren't any human antagonists either, just monsters. There is a bit of humor supplied by the hero's snarky "non sentient" interface helper. I hope that gets further developed in the sequels. And I hate to say it but I hope the hero's wife and family turn out to be dead (as he fears they may be) because that will make him available to develop romantic entanglements.
But those are minor quibbles. I really did enjoy this book and I eagerly await the next installment.
