Historia
When Muslim fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralize NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuver to cloak a crash military build-up.

A fun techno thriller spoiled by a long walk
Revisado: 01-09-23
Keep the fast forward button handy while listening to this one, as the meteorologist povs drag this novel down. They break up the exciting action and intelligence drama with boring walking and an even more boring love story.

Historia
This classic war memoir, first published in 1920, is based on the author's extensive diaries describing hard combat experienced on the Western Front during World War I. It has been greatly admired by people as diverse as Bertolt Brecht and Andre Gide, and from every part of the political spectrum. Hypnotic, thrilling, and magnificent, The Storm of Steel is perhaps the most fascinating description of modern warfare ever written.

A fascinating book worth your time

A wonderful tall of the front line in its banality and horror wonderfully narrated. It feels like you are sitting with the author and hearing his tales in a wonderfully personal mannor

Historia
In the late 18th century, it was widely thought that to be a sailor was little better than to be a slave. "No man will be a sailor," wrote Samuel Johnson, "who has contrivance enough to get himself into jail. A man in jail has more room, better food, and commonly better company." If that were true, historian Nathan Miller suggests, then the record of sailing in the age of tall ships would likely be distinguished by few heroes and fewer grand narratives.

Surprisingly gripping
Revisado: 02-21-16
The battles are vivid, and the politics are interesting. Its worth your time. My only problem is that it seems more narrow in focus then the subtitle would suggest. It is a history of the American and Royal Navy, no more, no less.

Historia
A remarkable story of high hopes and crushing disappointment, the campaign contains moments of sheer horror and nerve-shattering excitement; pathos and comic relief; occasional cowardice and much selfless courage - all culminating in the climax of the First Battle of Ypres. And yet, as Peter Hart shows in this gripping and revisionary look at the war's first year, for too long the British part in the 1914 campaigns has been veiled in layers of self-congratulatory myth.

that really bothers me, as it makes it harder to understand what they are saying when you lay on a thick French or German accent over important information
