Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

manic marble chewing narration
Revisado: 06-03-07
I rated the book one star only because of its poor narration. The content itself is great. I guess.
I just can't make out more than one in every six words. Some chapters I've played over 4 times and still only grasp half the words. Next time I'll think twice before ordering a book which the author himself narrates.
I'm going to order up a hard copy of this book so I can really make the most of the content.

Historia
A Year in the World is vintage Frances Mayes, a celebration of the allure of travel, of serendipitous pleasures found in unlikely locales, of memory woven into the present, and of a joyous sense of quest. An ideal travel companion, Frances Mayes brings to the page the curiosity of an intrepid explorer, remarkable insights into the wonder of the everyday, and a compelling narrative style that entertains as it informs.

eating her way accross europe
Revisado: 05-16-06
...........we all know that authors should not narrate their own work. Listening to this down-home Georgia girl read her own stuff helps remind us why. And, I'd like to make this clear also: this is a book more about eating than traveling.

Historia
Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. The letters are all addressed to "My dear and unfortunate successor", and they plunge her into a world she never dreamed of: a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of history.

Misses the mark somehow
Revisado: 09-02-05
..........I like supernatural themes, and although Vampire stories have been done too many ways already I think there is a good old fashioned "being there" style that has yet to be exploited. This book sets out in that direction but bogs down in the author's exasperating choice of telling stories within stories within stories. Or is it because this audio book version is a condensed one? Probably some of both. Anyway, it didn't cut it for me.
