Historia
For millennia, land has been a symbol of wealth and privilege. But the true power of land ownership is even greater than we might think. In Land Power, political scientist Michael Albertus shows that who owns the land determines whether a society will be equal or unequal, whether it will develop or decline, and whether it will safeguard or sacrifice its environment.

Great stories of what countries are doing that we never hear about. This is led by working with the people. Excellent…..

Excellent! Extraordinary and should be a must read
Revisado: 03-06-25
Excellent! Extraordinary. Should be a must-listen/read for any student of politics, history, feminism, society... A completely different way of looking at our relationship and Connections to Land. Such a reset from what so many take as "normal." and Truly, Braden Wright does a brilliant job -- his narration makes this consistently very, very interesting and drew me right in. Great Work -- narrator and author Michael Albertus.

A waste of time, and a waste of money I expected better from Blake
Revisado: 02-04-24
Worst narration, I have ever heard why would an author pay a narrator this bad there is no performance value. There was no going along with the story or cake being involved, or being drawn in. This was a waste of time, and a waste of money.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Beware of masochistic torture you can't unhear
Revisado: 07-21-21
Gaiman is a master of some elements but he evidently isn't speaking from the mountain of self-knowledge here -- more from journaling in an apparent attempt to work out and expunge old demons of abuse. Unfortunately, that means spewing them onto the listener. My empathy for him but this was interminable. Is he too big for an editor to reign him in, or does a narrator-writer of his calibre forestall caution and collaboration on topics he should know are so sensitive and personal to him? Art does not always have to equal only pain. Transformations are effective when tempered with an encouraging pace to share in a journey that goes somewhere, not stalled in one gear for half the book. Gaiman effectively uses quiet personal intimacy -- in words and performance -- to bring you into the innocent perspective of a child but then takes that power and bludgeons you torturously with manipulative abuse to an inexcusable degree until it becomes masochistic to continue to listen. I gave it 2+ hours and then I jumped from halfway to 3/4 and found the same plodding use of the whipping pen dubbed "share my pain." It's not an original sentiment, but I truly wish I could unhear this, and that's not possible. Unfortunately, this is my first full Gaiman production. I know he's a master at other works so I'll go to one other but with much more caution and self protection rather than open interest... appropriate when an author doesn't know himself well enough at this point in his career and produces this intimately horrific and manipulative mess out of potentially promising premises. Horrendous.

I loved it! The narrator is so good she allows the words to create the pictures in your mind: very adroit. Outstanding! Looking forward to numbers 2, 3, 4 & 5... how long must I wait?

Historia
Luc O'Donnell is tangentially - and reluctantly - famous. His rock-star parents split when he was young, and the father he's never met spent the next 20 years cruising in and out of rehab. Now that his dad's making a comeback, Luc's back in the public eye, and one compromising photo is enough to ruin everything. To clean up his image, Luc has to find a nice normal relationship...and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He's a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and someone who has never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. He’s perfect boyfriend material.

Brilliant study of human fears and the way in which we protect ourselves from painful situations, only to bring about the very reality we were trying to control our way around! Loved it all the way through and plan on listening again! Highly recommend!!!

In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep. Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of.

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old, he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. The story is wonderful, but if you want a 5 out of 5 you need a better proofer. Each repeated sentence takes the listener out of the story,it is jarring
