And I answer that I thoroughly enjoyed this book, both story and performance. I laughed, I teared up, and I thrilled. Charlie has a unique gift for writing clean romance, with a dash of magic and adventure. I look forward to the rest of the series

Northmen is there to tell the tale, to pay homage to what was lost and celebrate what was won. Focusing on key events, including the sack of Lindisfarne in 793 and the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, medieval history expert John Haywood recounts the saga of the Viking Age, from the creation of the world through to the dwindling years of halfhearted raids and elegiac storytelling in the 13th century.

Interesting stretch of history
Revisado: 07-19-23
The content itself is interesting. The history is an expansion on what is commonly known or accepted, and in some cases refutes common narratives. The narrator does an excellent job enunciating names from several languages. the struggle is in the dry narration. Very little inflection is added and it's very nearly monotone. I struggled to finish

A puzzling series of dental explosions beginning in the 19th century is just one of many strange tales that have long lain undiscovered in the pages of old medical journals. Award-winning medical historian Thomas Morris delivers one of the most remarkable, cringe-inducing collections of stories ever assembled.

Historia
In this poignant capstone to the trilogy, the man called Barabbas—infamous former thief, murderer, and prisoner turned Christian—and his wife, Chanah, continue their mission of spreading the gospel across the known world as cauldrons of political and military chaos boil across the Roman Empire. Nero is increasingly erratic, and it’s only a matter of time before the sharp knives of imperial politics finish him off. Various successors vie for position. Who will strike first, and who will come out on top?

A new favorite
Revisado: 06-02-22
This series has become a recent favorite. Through this trilogy I've come to realize that while stories of magical knights, time travel, and other staples of fantasy are exciting and enjoyable, I also need stories of men who become fathers. Men who recognize their need for God and seek Him out. I'm glad, and pleasantly surprised, I was able to listen to these books and discover such a man in Jesse Barabbas. A man infamous for his brief appearance in the New Testament, but largely unknown otherwise. A man in the classical world of Rome during a period with which I'm less familiar than other areas. A man of faith willing to walk great distances to see his family, to serve Christ, and to show his faith.
I put this trilogy next to The Work and the Glory for the hope and faith it inspires, the history and geography it introduces and for the characters I was permitted to spend time with.
I am left wondering what else Bishop Jesse Barabbas does with his life. Whether he passes first or Paul. Does he serve as a seventy, or does he stay closer to home and build up the Church there? Whatever followed after the epilogue, his legacy was spread far and wide in this telling of a "what if..." story.
Thanks for the journey, Brother House!

This episode brought up an old memory for me
Revisado: 04-05-22
I was glad to hear a little more about that fateful trip to Moab with the young men. If it's the same trip I'm remembering then my wife and I were living in the Pleasant Grove Ward when it happened. I do remember one of the other leaders on the trip talking about it during testimony meeting and everyone seemed to be on the edge of their seats. I'm equally glad that everybody who went on that trip made it home

Historia
We know precious little of the man called Barabbas, a contemporary of Jesus of Nazareth. He is variously described in the historical record as thief, murderer, rebel, and notable Roman prisoner. His release by the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate was part of the supernal plan for the Christ to offer himself as the ultimate blood sacrifice, but it’s doubtful Barabbas understood any of that at the time. Many have wondered what became of him, or rather, who he became after that fateful day.

A new personal favorite regarding redemption
Revisado: 02-16-22
I love the idea of Barabbas seeking redemption, eventually. I love stories with people who struggle to see themselves as others do, and to see the good in themselves.
Barabbas literally watched Jesus take his place on the cross. It could easily have been him, and by legal rights it should've been him. In this imagining of the life of such an infamous figure, he knows the literal meaning of that exchange, but struggles to fully accept it on a spiritual level. His development comes across as realistic while he deals with his guilt and anger. I'm glad to have this book in my library and will return to it again as I need the reminder that Christ already paid the price. I don't need to punish myself over and over again for my errors. I need to repent and do better and that is all!

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

Historia
Tucked away in Siberia, there are furry, four-legged creatures with wagging tails and floppy ears that are as docile and friendly as any lapdog. But, despite appearances, these are not dogs - they are foxes. They are the result of the most astonishing experiment in breeding ever undertaken - imagine speeding up thousands of years of evolution into a few decades. In 1959, biologists Dmitri Belyaev and Lyudmila Trut set out to do just that, by starting with a few dozen silver foxes from fox farms in the USSR and attempting to recreate the evolution of wolves into dogs in real time.

Historia
Travel to other planets is now a reality, and with overpopulation stretching the resources of Earth, the necessity of finding habitable worlds is growing ever more urgent. There’s a problem though—because the spaceships are slower than light, any communication between the exploring ships and Earth would take years.
Tom and Pat are identical twin teenagers. As twins they’ve always been close, so close that it seemed like they could read each other’s minds.

This has always been one of my favorite book, so much so that I considered keeping a copy of the audiobook I borrowed from my library. It certainly is dated, but has a sufficient amount of that high adventure romance and charm, exploration, and introspection.
