Historia
"We become important only because of our decisions," Katya Volkova advised him. What she meant by this, Iraqi-war veteran Paul Drake wasn't quite sure at first. In this fast-paced sequel to Against the Dusk, Paul confronts a dangerous world of shifting global power politics and illicit weapons deals. A cat and mouse game to ferret out Russian-backed arms dealer Bogan Zoidze leads Paul, Katya, and a cast of other memorable characters to war-torn Syria, the posh avenues of Paris, ancient Black Sea ports, and hidden island retreats in Malta and Sicily.

Historia
It was a cold night when Paul Drake, an Iraq War veteran, wandered into the Zephyr Gallery in Manhattan’s Chelsea district. Little did Paul realize then that his chance encounter with Katerina Volkova would spark an unlikely but fated romance. An ongoing government investigation soon thrusts them both into a treacherous world of Russian power plays, double agents, and illicit chemical weapons sales. A lethal network of war profiteers working in the shadows aim to prolong the chaos - no matter the human cost.

Fantastic reading of a new espionage thriller !
Revisado: 02-15-22
Alex Hoeffler brought to life characters in a theatrical, strong reading! The story is fast paced and an easy listen - part romance, part thriller, with some vivid takes on contemporary political issues such as Russia, Ukraine, and Syria. Very cool storytelling

Historia
Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

disappointed
Revisado: 09-24-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The voices and the tone was extremely hard to listen to. It was very exaggerated
Has The Hero with a Thousand Faces turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
It was very much read in a tone of excitement and overstatement
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment
Any additional comments?
I was not impressed with Cambell's logical structure and after listening for many hours I honestly could not figure out the point of the book other than some vignettes and disparate stories that could be attributed either to folklore or mythology. I felt he was mixing genres in a way that was an attempt at creating emotions in an literary way but it was definitely NOT good scholarship.

Good but a bit basic
Revisado: 09-30-15
The subject matter was great but the level is basic and the teacher repeated herself often. It is the equivalent of a high school discussion, not college. However, good context on the subject was provided.

The Devil comes to Moscow, but he isn't all bad; Pontius Pilate sentences a charismatic leader to his death, but yearns for redemption; and a writer tries to destroy his greatest tale, but discovers that manuscripts don't burn. Multi-layered and entrancing, blending sharp satire with glorious fantasy, The Master and Margarita is ceaselessly inventive and profoundly moving. In its imaginative freedom and raising of eternal human concerns, it is one of the world's great novels.

one the best novels ever written
Revisado: 06-19-10
This novel is one of the great works of fiction. It exists on many layers and moves from tragedy to comedy in a seemless fashion. The audio version could be better, but it is very difficult to translate from the Russian. Still, a great way to experience this masterpiece.
