Such practical advice!
Revisado: 12-14-24
I would highly recommend either of the “Happiest” books (baby and toddler)! Both books have been very thought provoking and immediately useful for my now toddler. It really helped to reframe my brain around how toddlers are little cave people because it allowed me to make more space for her uncivilized behavior. I appreciated all the tools to add to my belt for handling the day to day situations AND that most of the tools are positive ways to reinforce good behavior or to redirect and prevent the negative behavior. It also helped that throughout this book I gained perspective on my situation and also felt very validated!

Just Beautiful Across the Board
Revisado: 01-30-23
A totally inspiring story. Full of content and delivered beautifully. One of the themes she touches on about how America is such a world of contradictions all at once really resonated with me. She went on to talk about how she loved this country for being perfectly imperfect in that way. I struggle with the contradictions in this country so it was a refreshing perspective to consider from someone who is obviously so much more aware of the shortcomings and opportunities that America has and offers.

So useful
Revisado: 10-15-19
I am a reader of self-help books and have sometimes found them to be a little idealistic about the approach they prescribe, but this book was so down to earth, and so undeniably fair, that while it said much of the same things I’ve read before, I am able to understand it in a much more practical and applicable way.

I will be sharing this book with everyone I love. It’s brought me so much peace of mind to be able to articulate certain innate understandings to communicate and purposely practice the ideas and suggestions from this book. Just bought the abridged version of the book to have a good reference.

Historia
A string of best sellers have alerted us to the importance of grit - an ability to persevere and control one's impulses that is closely associated with greatness. But no book yet has charted the most accessible and powerful path to grit: our prosocial emotions. These feelings - gratitude, compassion, and pride - are easier to generate than the willpower and self-denial that underpin traditional approaches to grit. And, while willpower is quickly depleted, prosocial emotions actually become stronger the more we use them.

The themes in this book should be taught to children
Revisado: 09-14-18
I have always been a big believer that it took grit and will power to employ self control and that emotions will only bring impulsive decisions, so the concept of utilizing emotions to reach the same goal seemed unlikely. I am now an advocate of the mindset that we need to be cultivating these three social emotions in just as much of a capacity as those executive functions we’ve been told lie behind all great achievement. I have been sharing these concepts with everyone I care about and I’m starting to hear them talking about it to others! This was a very enjoyable and informative listen and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Not only was the story extremely interesting, but the narration was perfectly cast to give the characters their depth. I really enjoyed listening to this novel.
