Torture in every way
Revisado: 09-15-24
For the life of me I cannot understand what people see in this book. It is a mess of violence for violence sake, never ending battle scenes, plot holes, and absurd implausibilities for even a magical realm. It is three times the length it should have been. I had to stop listening so many times out of sheer annoyance. The heroine is insufferable, so unlikeable that her only redeeming quality is that she loves her cat. I will say, the voice actor did a wonderful job and I would listen to her performances again happily. Do yourself a favor and don’t waste 33 hours of your life in this book.

Hard to listen to new narrator who plays Feyre weak
Revisado: 12-18-23
I am not sure why the voice actor was changed for this installation but, the new actor did not understand the main character and so played her frustratingly poorly. I had to turn off the book so many times because Feyre sounded whiney, weak, and helpless. I found myself just wanting the book to be over repeatedly during the last few chapters because it seemed like an endless stream of whining. And the way she played Rhysand didn’t fit the character either. While I actually think the voice actor would probably be great for other books, she just didn’t understand the characters in this book at all and it changed the whole tone of the book.
The story itself has some really great plot points and some that make no sense at all. There are also some annoying errors that had me screaming, like that during the final battle other characters can winnow but Feyre can’t - for no reason that makes any sense other than that the author wanted to drag out the finale. During battle scenes we hear Feyre’s constant rambling thoughts - thoughts that in reality she would not have time to think in the speed of the battle, especially in the drawn out way the narrator performed them. It’s like every 30 seconds of time are drawn out to 5-10 minutes of obnoxious narration. Finally, the climax and resolution were annoyingly predictable. I’d say the first 3/4 of the book were so promising and then the last 1/4 was killed by a blend of poor narration and lazy writing.

Mystery, history and a smattering of romance
Revisado: 04-29-23
I really enjoyed this read. The mystery aspect of the story is unique and not predictable. The romance is realistic, not over the top. My only dislike was that the narrator affected a stilted manner of speech for some of the characters at times that drove me bonkers. That was not enough to put me off of the story and she otherwise voiced the other characters quite well.

Historia
Lucy Bowman would never have guessed that her best friend, Duffy McCready (of McCready’s Bait Shop & Funeral Home) has been in love with her since they were kids. Fear of rejection and his own romantic complications prevented Duffy from confessing his true feelings in high school, so he stood by and watched her wed Wayne Garten right after high school. Wayne had always been a cheapskate, so it comes as no surprise when he suffers a fatal accident while fixing his own truck.

Assertive adult characters for the win
Revisado: 07-28-19
I love all of Molly Harper’s books, and this one is no exception. What I love most about this book is that the heroine is assertive, confident, and smart while also being relatably human. It is so refreshing to see a character actually say what she is thinking rather than the whole book being based on the silly and immature miscommunications that many romance novels employ as the challenges between the hero and heroine. The hero is also refreshing in his ability to talk about his feelings and not be some sort of emotionally stunted man-child. Finally, Gimme Some Sugar takes on the complications of second chance romance and complicated family dynamics in a humorous, warm, and realistic way that I really enjoyed. Highly recommend!

Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot's rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society and made elegance and glamour her business. She's riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she's blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start - and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

Molly Harper, what else can I say
Revisado: 04-13-18
I have been a fan of Molly Harper’s since the 2009 release of Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs, but my enjoyment of this book is not simply because I am a Molly Harper fan. There is something very endearing and real about this story, a story with no supernatural creatures or other hooks to draw you in. Molly Harper has a gift for making the reader feel, and in this story it is so easy to connect to each and every character and their personal challenges in life. Harper’s writing illuminates that people are flawed, but still beautiful. On the surface this may just seem like “just” a romance novel to some, but to me Harper paints a picture of a world filled with flawed but valuable people who find a way to find love and beauty in this complicated world.
Also, Amanda Ronconi is everything good in voice acting.
