I loved the story and the characters. They have been created so well, you feel what they feel. My only dislike was at times I couldn’t tell who was speaking (mainly when it was skadi and angryboda), but other than that I knew the characters speaking

Amazing

I am a fan of supernatural and ghost stories. I would say this is more psychological horror then the horror of modern scary movies. It is all about the people and their experiences as well as what they tell themselves to cope.
The pacing is just right. I don’t think I have a bad thing to say about this.

I will give the narrator kudos. I did not mind his narration/voices at all. I think he did a great job; however, the story is so slow and not satisfying in the end.
I was sucked in at first but then the book drags on for 75% of the book. All I wanted to know was the who done it, but the time you find out there is still like 2 hours left in the book. What else do you need to know?
I don’t like how the plot was wrapped up at all. For the who killed the person in the tree to the rest (being vague to avoid spoilers). I kind of regret wasting the time it took to listen to this book.

Amazingly heartwarming

I loved this story from beginning to end. It thoroughly details how a family embraces each other no matter what and how they navigate life together.

Great narration

I give tremendous kudos to the narrator. He differentiated so many characters with his voice and did Scottish and Irish accents so well. I didn’t cringe a bit at his accents. I will say the women’s voices, Lydia’s in particular, we’re a bit off for women, but not the cheap and annoying falsetto that is so common when men are narrating women’s voices.

I was hooked from the onset and couldn’t wait for more secrets to be revealed. Highly recommend!

Decent

I have had this is my library for awhile but just now listened to it. Knowing this was written years before Roe vs Wade was indeed overturned puts a more harrowing tone to this book.
I have heard worse and yet better narrators, so take that as you will.
The characters are very real and relatable.

Overall, I would listen to it again.

I was nervous to listen to this since it could be derivative of handmaidens tale, but I was quickly drawn in by the characters. Every narrator was good to the point I knew the character speaking even though each narrator’s version were different. What I mean is if Julian is speaking to another character but it is from Sabine’s pov, you know it is Julian from Sabine’s narrator. I would take the bad reviews with a grain of salt. Part of me wished for more, but it could have ruined the story’s pace and plot.

Hilarious

I am going to say wil Wheaton is not the best narrator so much so that within 30 minutes my mom didn’t want to keep listening. I, however, was hooked by the snark and comedy in one liners already.

I highly suggest listening to it and let the narrator have a break. The story and characters and one liners are worth it.

My mom and I listened to this while crafting together. My number one issue was the very discordant “music” that was placed in the production. I couldn’t figure out why or when but it was very jarring and hurt my ears. Narrator was talking then Boom discordant and annoying music. Overall the story isn’t bad but I have serious issues with the pacing. You know protagonist is not going to be successful with getting rid of the ghost by himself by like hour 3. Then it just drags on while I’m thinking “just do something about it.” But then it picks up again when they do something about it. I just don’t think it is a good book when I have the thought “oh get it over with already.” If the pacing was different I’d like it a lot better. I am hoping this is a fluke from the son of Stephen King

While he is not the best at the sparse women’s voices he does still differentiate all of the characters so it was easy for me to overlook the falsetto. Not to mention the story is engaging and one I did not want to put down! I am excited to start the next book as soon as I can!
