Historia
Aspiring author Ben Simmons hates imposing himself upon others, so when he breaks down in the small Rhode Island town of Kettering, he's forced to grit his teeth and lean on strangers for help. It's not all bad, though. His temporary host could not be more accommodating, and the local librarian quickly takes an interest in Ben, as well as the research for his next novel. Though unexpected, his short stay has the potential to be enjoyable.

Revisado: 03-14-23
Not bad for a first novel but not my favorite - character development was lacking, but the research and overall message was alive and well in the tale

If I could give it a 10, I would.
Revisado: 03-08-22
I actually listened to this with my husband via audible, and it was a phenomenal listen. Will Smith’s narration shines in this book! We laughed, cried, mourned, thought deeply, resonated and sat in silence deeply reminiscing on the words we had just heard. It moved us in ways that we weren’t expecting. The conversations and silent moments after a chapter leaving behind core memories for us. I recommend this book, this listen wholeheartedly! If I could give it a 10, I would.

Loved Next Year in Havana and this was no different. Beatriz is a strong, female character, and I’m so much better for having followed her story in this book (fictional or not). I’m expectantly awaiting to open up the next book

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

A Classic…
Revisado: 02-03-22
From an enjoyment perspective, I liked parts and tried really hard to get through others. It’s a classic, and I recognized the story for its stamp on literature. The story itself explores hard work, life, yearning, sadness, perseverance. The correlation between the baseball player’s injury and his own really struck me. A deeper conversation stirred there. Overall, it was a good read, and the most important part is that it made me pensive! Ernest Hemingway’s way of writing here was realistic, simple, and raw BUT held such deep meaning.

Revisado: 01-31-22
The final book! I’ve mentioned this before, but I really recommend this story. Definitely enjoyed the unique plot twists, plethora of unique characters, and the way the story really works to pull you in! I’ve been invested in these characters and watching them change forever or pass on has been thoroughly enjoyable in the multitude of emotions I felt. Alina entered this STRONG and it ended so suavely. I’ve spent the last few weeks engulfed in the storyline and imagining the world Bardugo created. It was worth every moment!

Another great book from this series! I couldn’t stop taking this story in - captivated at every turn and really enjoyed the action parts. I won’t spoil anything, but the way it was written really made you feel like you were witnessing the events. I was gripping my theoretical seat!

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

This was a LONG read but it was worth it.
Revisado: 01-11-22
“But let me tell you what I know, what I’ve concluded: it doesn’t matter whether time passes slowly or quickly. What you can be sure of is that, in the end, all you want is to have more.” This was a LONG read but it was worth it. The imagery and lessons in this book are ones that stick with you. Oddly enough it touches on the Spanish Flu and I was reading it dead center of the current pandemic. If you have the time, a good tea or coffee, and a few afternoons on the couch, this is a great read!
