Historia
In this landmark work, one of the world's most renowned Egyptologists tells the epic story of this great civilization, from its birth as the first nation-state to its final absorption into the Roman Empire - 3,000 years of wild drama, bold spectacle, and unforgettable characters. Award-winning scholar Toby Wilkinson captures not only the lavish pomp and artistic grandeur of this land of pyramids and pharaohs but for the first time reveals the constant propaganda and repression that were its foundations.

Too much opinion presented as fact
Revisado: 02-28-25
The author presents too much of his own speculations and biases as fact. While there is a lot of good information in the book, you will learn as much about Wilkinson's opinions as you will facts about ancient Egypt; and, if you are new to egyptology, it can be hard to separate the two. Instead, I recommend listening to Brier's History of Ancient Egypt lectures and Red Land, Black Land by Mertz.

Historia
In this indelible memoir of the life of her remarkable 95-year-old grandmother, Guardian journalist Aida Edemariam tells the story of modern Ethiopia - a nation that underwent a tumultuous transformation from feudalism to monarchy to Marxist revolution to democracy, over the course of one century. Filled with a vivid cast of characters - emperors and empresses, priests and scholars, monks and nuns, archbishops and slaves, Marxist revolutionaries and wartime double agents - The Wife's Tale introduces a woman both imperious and vulnerable.

Great book!

I’ve read quite a bit on Ethiopian history and I’ve visited the country twice. This book did a excellent job of making that history come alive in a very personal way.
