When retired math teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza with a one-way ticket, no guidebook and no plan. Among the rugged hills and golden beaches of the island, Grace searches for answers about her friend’s life, and how it ended. What she uncovers is stranger than she could have dreamed. But to dive into this impossible truth, Grace must first come to terms with her past.

Imaginative. Excellent writer. Mathematics, space science, environment, justice and interdependence are all elements of this novel. Narrator was terrific. New to Matt Haig. Have read the Midnight Library also. Will read others by Matt. Thankful for his gift as a writer.

A compelling story, one that I likely would not have found without the recommendation of an exercise physiologist. It is wonderfully performed! Sharing and recommending good books is a gift to us all.

Youth Baseball Player Becomes Adult Mystery Writer
Revisado: 07-10-22
I first met John Dedakis when he played baseball in a low key summer recreation program in La Crosse WI. My position was a supervisor in the program and it was there I decided to be an educator.
Little did I realize what the future would hold for John and his fellow baseball players. I have followed John's career since then from a distance. Bullet in the Chamber was the first of his mysteries that I "read" by listening to Suzanne Cerreta narrate this book on Audible. I love listening to Audible as I remember how much my students wanted me to read to them. From their reactions to the story I learned so much about them.
Thanks to John for sharing his talent for writing with us and others who aspire to become writers. Parts of his life are in his writing and I am grateful for this. I have felt the loss of people I have loved and have learned to move "forward" and to cherish their memory. His compassion for others is evident in his writing and his podcasts.
Thank you John. You are an inspiration. Looking forward to reading all of your other mysteries.

Historia
Most of the world remembers Crazy Horse as a peerless warrior who brought the U.S. Army to its knees at the Battle of Little Bighorn. But to his fellow Lakota Indians, he was a dutiful son and humble fighting man who, with valor, spirit, respect, and unparalleled leadership, fought for his people's land, livelihood, and honor. In this fascinating biography, Joseph Marshall, himself a Lakota Indian, creates a vibrant portrait of the man, his times, and his legacy.

Crazy Horse, A Man Like No Other
Revisado: 09-18-21
Beautiful writer. Read by the author and his love of Crazy Horse as a man and leader by example was evident throughout. This should be done as a Ken Burns documentary with Joseph Marshal III as the primary advisor. The Journey of Crazy Horse was superbly told in this wonderful story.

The Word is a Treasure
Revisado: 07-11-21
In this beautifully written book I came to a new level of understanding of the impact of slavery on the those in bondage and many of their descendants, Clint Smith included. I don't pretend that I now have a complete understanding, but certainly more so than when I last took a college course in American History in college in the late 50's. The book was a moving experience and as a former educator, I wish at minimum it could be on the reading list for students of US history. That should be all of us. It saddens me to know that white supremacy is still with us. I plan to encourage others to read and to discuss this book. Thanks to the author for writing and reading this book. For me, highlighting in the hard copy as it was being read was meaningful. Listen on Audible.
