It’s a good thing that I liked the storyline!
Revisado: 05-06-23
The mysteries were really good and I liked the characters, but the narration is SO bad. I’m really surprised that she was allowed to continue after the first book. The voices and accents she used were embarrassing and uncomfortable. I apologize if she’s a relative or good friend of the author. But, for me to give a bad review about it, it has to be really bad.

Historia
The author at 16 years old was evacuated with her family to an internment camp for Japanese Americans, along with 110,000 other people of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast. She faced an indefinite sentence behind barbed wire in crowded, primitive camps. She struggled for survival and dignity, and endured psychological scarring that has lasted a lifetime. This memoir is told from the heart and mind of a woman now nearly eighty years old who experienced the challenges and wounds of her internment at a crucial point in her development as a young adult.

Excellent book
Revisado: 02-26-23
The narrator did an excellent job with an extremely well written book. It was a sad time in our history and must never be repeated. In modern times it is difficult to understand why our government couldn’t differentiate between the loyal Japanese-Americans and the enemy. However, it was a different time without the technology to do what we can do now. However, common sense should have played a part. I suspect it was panic and knee jerk reactions instead. The Japanese government did the unimaginable by surprise, so the U.S. thought it better make sure it didn’t surprise us again. Sadly, it was at the expense of loyal, hardworking people. People will learn a lot from reading this book and maybe someday humans will learn to get along with each other without resorting to war. I’m sure it won’t be in my lifetime from the looks of things.

Historia
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's stunning debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

The absolute best book I’ve listened to since I joined Audible
Revisado: 04-14-22
This is a wonderful love story based on fact. I experienced every emotion from start to finish. It restores your faith in humanity after it knocks that faith out from under you. It demonstrates how doing the right thing is all part of the life you’re meant to live. You realize how important family, friends and music are to the soul. I highly recommend this one.

I didn’t think I was going to like this book at first but every page got more informative and interesting. This is not a book where you can guess the ending. But as it progressed I started liking the characterS. I’m going to get the second book.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Revisado: 09-23-21
This Is one of the best books I’ve ever read or listened to. I felt like I was in the story. I felt every emotion of all of the characters and also those that they interacted with. I was satisfied with the ending because it actually felt more like the beginning for everyone. It definitely renews your faith and confidence in the character of human beings.

It felt like only minutes had passed when I woke up with a start. I glanced over at the digital clock I had placed on the nightstand; it read 3:19 a.m. I had been fast asleep for hours - what had woken me up? I raised my head to look around the room, and my heart leaped into my throat. There, standing at the foot of my bed, was a figure, looming in the darkness.

Historia
Dear Diary.... To celebrate her birthday, George invited Bess and me on her dream trip: a three-day bike tour around the beautiful Mystic Lake Park. I'm not exactly outdoorsy, but I was excited to explore the gorgeous landscape by day and camp under the stars at night. But the tour has been nothing short of a nightmare! First someone stole our tents. Then our trip leader, Caitlin, vanished overnight. Now we can't find the way back to civilization, and no one in our group can agree on the next move.

Fun listening to a book from my youth
Revisado: 09-12-21
It was enjoyable but completely different than how I imagined everyone. It was probably recorded in the present day rather than the 50s-60s. But, I still liked listening to it.

Historia
Shy, introverted Dr. Cate Kensie never imagined that she would inherit a beautiful, and oddly quirky, castle nestled in the picturesque Scottish Highlands. Truthfully, she was sure that she didn’t have any family left after her parents died in a car accident several years before, but then, she had gotten the phone call, and her entire world had turned upside down.

I really liked the characters in this book
Revisado: 06-11-21
I also liked the plot and the settings and especially the dog. The author is very descriptive and narration is very clear and easy to understand. Her transition between characters is very good. I’m looking forward to the next book. I listen to a lot of different types of Books, especially mysteries and this is just enough different to be very engaging in a new way.
